I highly recommend professor Im (AKA Mitsunaga.) Class is stress free and way easy, yet I still feel like I've learned a lot. She's super chill and plays Kpop before every lecture. She speaks without an accent in English, yet her Korean pronunciation sounds spot on, too.
She takes role and attendance is part of your grade. Same goes for discussions... in fact, you learn just as much in your sections, almost like a second lecture. Expect a vocabulary quiz every lecture starting week 2 or so, but don't worry because they are really easy and always have extra credit problems. Her tests are very straightforward and she pretty much tells you exactly what's going to be on there. Also, expect group/video projects.
I've taken Korean 1 and 2 with her, and because of her,I decided to take Korean 3 next quarter. She is super nice and tries to make every course stressfree. It seems that she is the kind of person who never gets angry. She explains grammar and vocabularies very well, and her exams are pretty easy. If you come to every class, and listen to instructions, you will definately get an A or A+.
I took two years of Korean with her (save for one quarter when she went on maternity leave). She is literally the nicest person, but so intimidating haha I can't even explain why.
The class gets hard around Korean 3 because there are so many new grammar patterns, but it's no fault of the professors, I just didn't study very well.
If you start doing bad on your tests (like I started getting C's) and go to her office hours she'll offer you little bits of extra credit, but even if you aren't doing bad she'll help you. She makes class easy and fun and she really was the greatest professor.
Im 선생님 is a very great professor. She teaches with her heart. Most of the people in class may already have some knowledge about Korean so most people do very well in class.
I was very behind because I did not like this class very much at the beginning, however, I forced myself to learn and I asked professor if she could give me some extra work to do to get a better grade. She did assigned me some extra work and it was helpful for my study as well.
I learned Korean with her for 3 quarter and just finished my K3 final today. It's a little bit sad to realize that I wont be seeing her every other day from now on.
She also teaches at the Korean Culture Center so I might get a chance to meet her in the future.
I like her smile. Very friendly.
This class is super easy and the teacher is super nice and helpful. If you are doing badly in the class, she will offer extra credit to raise your grade. Everything is very straightforward and to the point. Also, the teacher is just really nice and understanding. She will help you if you need it.
I'm taking Korean 2 right now which is a bit harder, but Korean 1 is very easy and fun!
one of the most understanding and helpful professors in the department! Professor Im was very concise and organized in her lecture style. She's very approachable, if you need help, and will take the extra time to make sure you understand various grammar rules.
Class requires a textbook and a workbook, which is what a majority of the lessons come from. There is also an online workbook website that was extremely helpful in studying for the lesson tests and final exam.
Korean 2 is definitely doable, given that you study diligently and regularly.
This class is amazing. Professor Im really made this my favorite part of every day. I took Korean 1 and 2 with her and having seen the lack of reviews I decided to write this. Take this class!! I had such a great time learning, she makes all the concepts easy to understand and is very understanding and open to giving help. In my opinion exactly how a language class should be. There weren't many assignments, definitely doable and they all held direct correlation to course material and exams so no "busy work." Even if you are just looking for a language G.E I would highly recommend. Honestly, this class reinforced my love for the Korean language and reassured me of my choice to minor in it!
Professor Im was wonderful! She is such a friendly, kind professor and I really enjoyed taking Korean 3 with her. I ended up getting pretty sick this quarter, and she and my TA were kind enough to give me an extension on the midterm oral project, which was extremely appreciated. This course consisted of vocabulary tests, lesson tests, written tests, and oral tests. Which sounds like a lot of work, but I did not find it to be too bad. Vocabulary tests were a little tricky, since you had to translate the appropriate word/phrase (although there was a word bank) and conjugate it appropriately, too. Some parts of the lesson tests referred to things in previous chapters, which I also found tricky, although most of the test was extremely fair. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Professor Im, just be prepared to start learning some Korean concepts that don't exist in English. :)
