Professor Lee is a kind, small woman who needs to learn how to lecture properly. It was really hard to stay awake in this class. Some of the material was boring but others were interesting. The midterm and final consist of two short essays and slide identifications in which you must know:
-Name of the object
-Type of object
-Dynasty and the date it was created
-Location and Province
There were three papers (the second was a rewrite of the first). But the biggest piece of advice I can offer is DO NOT take Evan. Although he's very knowledgable of the subject, he is a harsh grader. On the positive side, though, there is no textbook for this class, just readings that are posted on the class website (She usually posts two per week and are about 20 or more pages). I took this as a GE and regret it.
Prof. Lee is a very nice, and kind woman.
She's very passionate about Chinese art, and makes no hesitation to legitimize her knowledge of it.
Truly a wise woman, she lacks skills needed to lecture.
Unfortunately, her voice is very monotonous, and she stutters too much.
She also has the bad habit of jumping around between topics and ideas when she speaks; she doesn't stay on task.
I found myself falling asleep in most lectures, and eventually just stopped going.
She's probably one of the least engaging professor's I've ever had at this school.
The class itself is not difficult, but if you have no initiative to do readings on your own, you'll be lost.
It's not an easy A. I feel I'm only passing because I had an effective TA.
Professor Lee is a very nice lady who knows her information about Chinese art and everything. If you dont have an interest for the class I recommend not taking it. Lecture is very boring! A lot of the students end up going to sleep and don't pay attention. There are 3 papers, the second one is a correction for the first because typically students don't know how to write art history papers very well. The midterms is not easy, you have to memorize about 40 slides for just about 7 id questions, ridiculous? You bet! I recommend not taking this course if you want an easy A because it is not. The final is kinda long with 40 ids to memorize again. I don't recommend any of the TAs but the one I had wasnt very good!
