he's a pretty good professor, and if you like 101 then you'll like this class. he has a lot of interesting things to say about pricing. the midterm and final has a lot of math. i did all his problem sets and previous exams which he posts, and attended most lectures and ended up with over an a+.
it was a miracle that i got a B in this class. i only went to class half the time, and i did really bad on my first midterm (20/100) and my second midterm (47/100). but, i studied really hard for the final and answered as many questions as i can. note that he is REALLY GENEROUS in giving partial credit. btw, he drops one midterm but it is always a great idea to take both just to see which one will be higher
If you are not into theory, then don't bother taking class from this Professor. His lectures and exams are highly theoretical. On the other hand, if you like that, this Professor is for you! The lectures were interesting, but I found it hard to prepare for the exams because even though he gave problem sets for practice, I didn't feel that they translated at all to exam questions.
Only one word can summarize this professor: awful. His lectures were pointless, unbelievably boring, and the material he taught was not that confusing- it just seemed like his only goal for the class was to make the material as confusing as possible. I wound up with an A in the class- after failing a midterm- but thats probably because the final was so unbelievably difficult everyone must have done badly. Take him at your own risk
He is one of the worst professors I've had at UCLA. I thought this class was going to be really easy, but it ended up being very confusing and difficult mainly because of the professor. His lectures are so bad that I just stopped going, I couldn't take him. I actually ended up with a good grade in the class, but only because everyone else did so bad. I would not recommend Hopenhayn to anyone.
