Course taken: Music History 7
Great class! Easy and interesting! The only assingments are to watch a film each week, and there's one essay at the end of the quarter. Plus a midterm and final of course.
She posts articles for the class to read, I never read any of them and got an A in the class. You could also get by not watching the assigned films, but I recommend watching them because they're actually great films!
TL;DR Fun, you learn a lot, and easy A. Whether you're a musician or not, take this class! I really enjoyed it :)
Actual Course taken: Music History 7
Go to every lecture and review the study guides before the exam and you should be fine. Memorize the directors and composers, and figure out why each study guide term is important/relevant and how they are connected (they're ordered in appearance of the lecture, so they're pretty much all consecutive in relation). 3 multiple choice exams (50/40/40 questions respectively) which were fair.
5 page paper (double spaced) that is of your choosing. Easy if you have a good topic, annoying if you randomly choose a topic without much foresight of a meaningful discussion/analysis to be had. 3 due dates: outline, rough draft (2 pages), final draft.
Extra credit assignment worth up to additional 3%, which is extremely helpful since grading is on an absolute scale and not a curve. Did it the day it was due and ended up with 2.5%.
I have no experience in music theory or playing an instrument. Class was interesting and not time-consuming. With extra credit, ended up with an A. Highly recommend it for a fairly easy GE.
I took Music History 7 with Replogle fall quarter of my freshman year.
So easy and so much fun! You learn a lot about the history of music in film without really having to stress about your grade.
Highly recommended as a GE.
