I took this class to fulfill a major requirement and was intimidated by the contents initially, but Professor Deutsch's lectures and fun personality made these texts so interesting and engaging! Assignment prompts were so unique, creative, and enjoyable to participate in. The professor always returned our papers with thoughtful and timely comments as well. Her utilization of BruinLearn's tools made everything so much more organized and convenient, and I especially appreciated the discussion forum which made participating all the more accessible. I would highly recommend Professor Deutsch to other students and hope to take a course from her again in the future!

I took Professor Deutsch over the winter quarter, and I found her class to be interesting. She is very passionate about what she's teaching and, overall, a very down-to-earth professor. If you have any questions or are having trouble in or outside the classroom, she is always willing to talk to you after class and help you out. Overall very fair and wants you to pass and understand the material. The course mainly focuses on poetry during the 1800's discussing satiric poets like Alexander Pope and Montagu, her class definitely showed a different perspective as to what 1800 poetry entailed. Her class requirements are broken down like this: Class participation (10%), imitation exercise including roughly 3 pages of imitation, 2 of explanation (25%); a long post which will serve as a short paper (25%); and a take-home final (40%). Overall very well-paced class, and if the workload is ever feeling too overwhelming, you can always email her and ask for an extra day to turn it in.
