Math 115A is indeed one of the hardest undergrad math course. But, Professor Hida has been done everything very well, and all his notes are incredibly useful. His hand writing is very nice and his notes are very easy to follow. He does everything through steps. When we ask kind of "dumb" question, he never makes us embarrassed or lack of confident, instead he will patiently explain again and again. I never wrote a review on bruin walk, and ever since this professor is very impressive to me, I really appreciate all his work. He always holds extra office hour 1-2 hours before the exam starts, and therefore that is a good time to ask. Of course, we have to come with a question (and again, he never makes you feel dumb or foolish). This is one of the best Math professor at UCLA. Two thumbs up for HIDA !!!

His lecture notes are kinda unorganized and the course itself is also very hard(More proofs but less calculations than 33a). My suggestion: 1.Read the book and make sure you know very clearly about each theorem (know what they are and how to use them, but you don't need to know how to prove theorem itself because professor Hida said PROOF OF A THEOREM will NEVER appear on the exams) 2.HWs were a little hard but TA will help you during the discussion sessions so don't worry. 3.His review session before the exam IS ESSENTIAL!!!some of the problems he solved in review session will definitely appear in your real exam.

funny guy, makes jokes every now and then, its a bit hard to understand him, and he can be intimidating in his office hours, and his notes are almost exactly like whats in the book, basically its sort of on your own. all of that aside though, he is a very very reasonable grader and a very kind man. would not recommend him for lower divs, i took him for an upper div course, i would actually think hed do best teaching a graduate course (207) which is his field of interest. every now and then he would mention things about number theory in our complex class.
