I highly recommend taking PIC 16A with Prof. Ji if you can. She is a great lecturer and really cares for her students. I didn't feel a need to attend discussion since Prof. Ji taught the concepts pretty well. The weekly homework assignments were challenging but doable if you put in the time and effort. Piazza was a super helpful resource for this class; many students utilized it to ask questions and the professor was pretty helpful and responsive. The midterm and final were somewhat time consuming and difficult, but still doable as long as you kept up with the lectures and homework assignments. The averages for the midterm and final were really high since they were 24 hour exams. Weekly quizzes were extremely fair and doable as long as you watched lecture and looked over the short online readings. I would take this class again with Prof. Ji.
Her class is great to take when everything are take-home. She is clear and helpful, and the exams are take home coding questions and she will provide you with test cases. That is to say, you shouldn’t be losing any point in the exams, and that will guarantee you an A+. I heard that her test during regular quarters rely heavily on remembering concepts, but it during pandemic is informative and easy.
Professor Ji isn't the most engaging lecturer but she gives you all the materials you need to do well in this class. The homeworks are very helpful and pretty interesting to do. My only complaint with this class is that there are a lot of different library functions and function parameters to memorize, which can be difficult to recall on the tests, which might ask you to use specific functions in certain libraries. Professor Ji is very good at answering questions and really wants everyone to succeed in the class. I definitely recommend this class.
Take this course with professor Ji!!! She gives clear lectures and properly written homework prompts. The first three projects are easy and they start getting harder as the materials are getting harder. Course materials are really useful in real life.
There are one midterm and one final. The midterm and final are hard because they are open internet.
Lectures are sometimes a little unclear, but she makes up for it with good homework assignments, fair exams, and going out of her way to make sure students are keeping up. Would recommend.
Great professor! I learned a lot. Tough class and tough material, but Professor Ji does a great job teaching it. Highly recommend her
