I want to preface this by saying that 183 is a retarded class and I don't think we should be forced to take it. now, when it comes to teaching, Hahn is a horrible horrible teacher. One time 3 of the 80 people enrolled went to lecture but what disturbs me is that he knows no one pays attention or listens to him but he is just as happy coming to class every other day and talking to himself for two hours. if it was me I would've quit the second day.

his midterm and final were easy as hell. they're all the homework problems and end of chapter quizzes. I got an A and I didn't learn anything. I am not exaggerating when I say that. if I was to grade myself based on my knowledge of manufacturing I would give myself a C- but he gave me an A which just goes to show that he agrees with me on how useless this class is. plus I wish we had spent less time reviewing material science and more time learning modern manufacturing. we did IC, IC packaging, MEMS which are 3 chapters and ~300 pages in the last lecture and we didn't have time to cover nanotechnology (not that I learned anything about the ones we did). if they had asked me I would have skipped the first 8 chapters that we did in the fist 6 weeks and spent 10 weeks on the 10 chapters we did in the last 4 weeks. but they didn't ask me.

oh and one time I sent him an email asking him something, he didn't even answer it. I don't like this guy as my teacher but he seems like a nice person.

Yes, Professor Hahn likes to teach through Powerpoint slides. I don't blame him for doing so in MAE 183, since it is not a mathematical based course. Manufacturing Processes is a lot of text and concepts, with experimental equations in some chapters.

The lectures were not very effective, since Hahn seems to read from his slides most of the time. The only reasons students attended lecture were to take the quiz and submit homework. His slides were those published by Wiley, and he made some modifications to them. He posted them online, so he might as well send us home and read them on our own time. I wished he took some time to write on the board or explain some interesting concepts in more detail instead of chronologically flipping through slides.

Essenetially, this class was a LITTLE like MSE 104, except you did not have to spend the whole 2 hours writing down notes on the board. You just had to print out the slides, read them, and follow along in lecture. I think he spent too much time on the first few chapters (properties of metals, ceramics, polymers). At the end we could not cover the most interesting concepts of the course(MEMS, nanotechnology).

The quizzes were very easy, people could easily cheat for these. Homeworks were not too difficult, but a few problems were very difficult and the mean score was still very high. I think some people had the solutions manual or something. The midterm and final were very straight forward. If you understood the entire course material or just understood all the slides, you should easily get an A on those.
