This is one of the better chemistry professors I have taken here at UCLA. He does have an accent and at first I wanted to take the other lecture only it couldn't fit into my schedule. I'm glad I stood in this class, the professor is a great lecturer and he made his 8am class interesting. He did recycle a question on the final that apparently many students got wrong. I would have to say that his tests were fair, a bit on the conceptual side, which is good in biochemistry. He does curve the grades, generously I thought. I don't think the problem sets were too integral to the class (hardly anybody did them anyways) and they weren't graded so grades were based solely on tests. He does a good job in office hours explaining any difficult aspects. The great thing about this class is that he prepares handouts so that you don't have to take so many notes in class.
I would recomment anybody to take Prof C
I strongly recommend this professor. Dr. Chanfreau is one of the best professors at UCLA who can teach very well and concerns about students who seek for his help.
I agree with comments made previous to mine. Office hours are very helpful. He is willing to explain the materials in many different ways until you understand them. He uses one or two questions from problem sets on his exams. Sometimes he recycles one or two questions from his old tests. Exams are very fair. I found his lecture notes are very organized once I understood the materials.
Some bad things about him: (1)He has a heavy French accent but bareable overtime. (2)There are a couple of trivial mistakes per each handout (7 handouts total)--he gave students bonus points for finding them!
