Greg is such an awesome person! Coming into the class, I definitely was not the most excited about English or the topic of exploring L.A. and its development. However, Greg displayed a passion and enthusiasm for the subject that made it really enjoyable to learn and participate in class. He always led the class in such a kind manner that really made everyone feel included, and really wanted the best for all of his students. In terms of the work, I think he was really fair with what he gave us, and he made it extremely clear he wanted to help us if he could. Definitely go into his office hours just to talk about the classwork or about anything because he is so friendly and helpful. The service-learning component of the class was also really awesome, and it let me find an organization that I want to continue volunteering in the future. Never did I think an English class would become my most enjoyable class at UCLA, but through Greg and his awesome teaching, I can happily say this class was great.

Greg was a wonderful instructor and he made this class very interesting and fun, despite being online! As far as English classes go, this was one of the best English classes I have ever taken. The topics extended well beyond typical English classes and connected directly with the real world.

The main components of this class were a presentation, discussion board questions/responses, 3 reflections, and an essay (later made optional). None of the assignments were difficult and he provided plenty of resources and feedback on your work. Participation in class was also part of the grade, but his class was very welcoming so it was never difficult to make a point in discussions.

We had a total of 3 books and they were all very interesting and explained well in class. We also had to watch a documentary and read poetry. Reading was never unmanageable (appx. 100-150 pages/week) and he was very flexible if things came up.

Overall, take this class! The workload is manageable and the readings are interesting. Plus, Greg is one of the most considerate and student centered instructors I have ever had at UCLA. Despite being online, he fostered a strong sense of community in the class and took time to provide individual feedback on our work.
