Hated this class, hated the professor more. He's basically what happens when that annoying kid in your philosophy class grows up. It's pretty evident from the first class you take with him that he loves being thought of as the quirky teacher, which basically just means he's willing to swear during class and throw in a few jokes. He also consistently interrupted students during the class, often to make fun of their points of view.
This review is for English 130C. The class was very fun and Professor Rubinson was amazing. He was very helpful and willing to meet with you if requested outside office hours. Class is small, about 14-15 kids, so it was a nice change of pace personally. Class grade is mainly composed of a big paper, about 9-12 pages double spaced and a presentation. There is also a lot of Short reading in the first half of the class. Workload was a bit hefty but Every class was actually fun to be in. I highly recommend taking this class!
Dr. Rubinson is by far the best professor I have had at UCLA. I looked forward to his class every single time, and he always made the class laugh. The workload for the class is primarily reading, but I actually thought the books were super interesting and I am a STEM major. If you need a Writing II, I would highly recommend him. Your writing skills and soul will thank you!
Professor Rubinson was one of my favorite professors I've had at UCLA to date. His lectures were engaging and the class discussions we had were deep and insightful. From the books he chose for us to the presentations he presented, Rubinson made sure that every meeting of class was unique and exciting. I would definitely take this class again, and recommend that every student, honors or not, try and get into Honors 11W
Absolutely amazing professor, it is so clear that he cares about his students succeeding and the material that he teaches. The class is extremely fun, and the seminars are entirely discussion based. The class requires a lot of reading and places a huge emphasis on participation, but you learn how to become a better reader and writer through this course. I highly suggest that you take this course if you are interested, you will not regret it!
The class was one of the best that I have taken at UCLA. Professor Rubinson expects a lot and the workload is high, however, he is extremely helpful and caring about his students. The material is interesting and Rubinson knows it very well. You will certainly come out of this class with improved reading comprehension skills and better writing abilities.
