The final was harder than the midterm (more questions, more application based conceptual questions), but other than that, he's good at teaching the material while adding in some extra knowledge that makes the theories make more sense. Glad I took 120b with him.

The tests are HARD (I failed the midterm and learned my lesson on the final). Pay close attention to question wording. Take as detailed notes as possible. The homeworks are somewhat helpful, you should take advantage of the extra practice as he does not provide much otherwise. I personally would not take this class again, it was just the only one that fit for my schedule.

(From the perspective of an engineering student taking this for a tech breadth) This class is incredibly boring, and though the material isn’t particularly difficult, the way it was taught made it very hard to force yourself to do. It was only pre-recorded lectures from April, with the grades being entirely the midterm and final. The subject itself is very dull and the lectures worsen this (thank god for 1.6x video speed). That said, it was a very light load of work, which was really nice when taking more work-heavy classes, so would recommend if that’s what you’re looking for in a tech breadth class.

I took Klein during a Covid year so experiences might be different

BUT during my quarter where videos were asynchronous, all I had to do was watch his lectures RELIGIOUSLY. Watched them on schedule every week, took careful notes. At the end of each week, watched them again at double speed, adding anything I missed to my notes. Before each exam, watched them all again at double speed, again adding anything I missed to my notes. I would then review my notes, paying special attention to all the examples he gave us.

The material is dry at times (I liked 127A topics more just because it felt more applicable to individuals). Professor Klein can be quite vague when it comes to exam-based emails, but he can help explain or clarify topics over email, although he doesn't love to type lengthy emails. If you have a long question, go to his office hours! There is no homework, which is both good and bad - just be accountable for your learning.

Thought this class was very manageable and would do it again.

This is a pretty average class.
The workload is extremely light: there is no homework and you do not need to read the textbook at all, since everything is in his lectures.

His lecture videos were, however, all out of order. There also weren't any practice exam questions besides a few recommended hw problems, some of which have nothing to do with anything we learned. So the clarity is lacking.

However, if you take really good notes during his lectures, and watch each lecture video multiple times until you truly understand the intuition behind the concepts (not just memorize his words), then it is not impossible to do well in this class. It's all about taking good notes and religiously studying his videos until you understand intuition. After you've watched the related lecture videos, try all of the recommended textbook problems, but skip the problem if it doesn't correlate to lecture or if the solution contradicts lecture content. Don't be scared away from taking this course with Klein; I found it to be just fine, and I didn't need to study a ton each week. As long as you prepare hard for the 2 exams, you will be fine in this class.

Pretty good class. Klein is really good at giving engaging lectures with real world examples. The lectures are pretty straightforward, as is the course reader. There is no homework, although doing the recommended homework may help you prepare for exams, since there aren't a lot of preparation materials. Klein responds quickly to emails if you need help.

As long as you religiously study his lectures/notes and understand the logic behind every concept he goes over (and apply it), you will do well in this class. Especially if it's online, this is not a tough class at all.

Great professor. Highly sympathetic. Don't understand the so-called petition calling for his fire. As a POC, I don't think he is racist, to the contrary he is a great teacher. What else do y'all expect him to do anyways? Give POC A+ as a freebee? That would cost him his job and integrity.

Klein is very engaging and funny. His examples are very clear and easy to remember. I never got bored in his class, and I definitely recommend taking him. Selling the course reader and a pdf version of the textbook included at no charge, contact **********.
