I was in the marching band for 5 years at UCLA. I was concerned at first myself about Gordons methods but what I found is that if you actually make a concerted effort and also allow him to get to know you he really isn't too bad. In rehearsal he is as mean as he needs to be. Outside of it he is very helpful. Also, to those who state that the group isn't respected, you are wrong, in the college band world and music education world the UCLA Marching Band is one of the MOST respected. Maybe not in your little pop circles, but to those who think it matters, UCLA is one of the tops. He has done a great job with what he has.
