If you are checking this rating solely to see if Omatsu's class is an easy one, I will make it short and simple for you; yes it is an easy class. For all those who want know more, continue reading the next few sentences. Omatsu is a treasure. If you have the luxury of being able to even get into his class (there is very high demand for him), you will learn things you probably never thought about. There are three principles Omatsu bases his whole class on:

Emphasis on
1) The need to decolonize our minds from the legacy of 500 years of colonialism
2) Grassroot mobilization by ordinary people to change society
3) [Not completely sure on this one] The link between transforming oneself while changing society

The majority of the grade is projects (we did comic books, but he does say he always tries new things in his classes) based on these 3 issues. Omatsu also does a great job with revealing hidden issues in our society.

Asian American Social Movements with Omatsu is amazing. Omatsu is friendly and classes with him are very relaxed in that all he does is have us memorize a couple of basic points and stresses those points in projects in the class. He has quizzes every week based on the reading and basic points. Reading is interesting but you can get by without reading because it's worth less than ten percent of your grade. Just show that you care (by coming to class) and you'll do well. Because of his popularity with the Asian Am community on classes, it's also a great space to meet people that are really involved on campus. The class is usually an interesting mix that consists half of students who are completely down and half of students who are looking for an easy A...
