Schaeffer was a fantastic professor for my Math 3C class! He had a great sense of humor and actually made the lectures halfway enjoyable. His tests were fair and taught how well we knew the material he taught us, without including sneaky trick questions like so many other math professors seem to do. Plus he's pretty cute :) Overall, such a great class.

*** TOOK FOR MATH 61 *** Professor Schaeffer is a great lecturer for Math 61. His lectures are concise and easy to follow. He's also very approachable, dedicated and concerned with student learning. His exams are medium to hard in difficulty however, his grading is EXTREMELY lenient (lots of partial credit etc). Homework assignments are extremely challenging, and do not necessarily reflect what appears on his exams. Overall an excellent professor- I would recommend him.

Math 31B Spring 15 Fantastic professor and just seems like a very good man (although I don't know him personally). Crystal clear in his explanations of key concepts in class and in his expectations for the exams. He is pretty funny and his class has a great atmosphere. By far the best Math professor I've had. He has rekindled my interest in Math with his subtle exposition of concepts such as complex numbers in the last class to the extent that Im considering a change in major. Haven't taken my final yet so I do not know my grade.

Schaeffer is great. Clear explanations, sense of humor, fair grading. He gives you lots of study material for exams (practice exams, list of expectations, practice questions). Above all, he just makes you feel like all the material is completely doable. I'm really glad he's at UCLA. By the way, had Will Rosenbaum as a TA. He was great, too.

Prof. Scheaffer is a wonderful lecturer. He is clear, concise, asks the class if we have questions, and is even comedic at times (very rare for a math professor :P). The homework assignments were challenging, and were graded for correctness and it was hard to get 100%. The two midterms and the final exam were fair, with averages in the low 80s. He told us exactly which proofs and theorems we did and did not need to know, and even repeated some homework questions on the exams. He holds regular office hours, which I found helpful. Still, 115A is a difficult class, and I cannot imagine how miserable I would have been if I had taken it with anyone else. He did not curve the class this quarter, and you do need the textbook (not necessarily the UCLA edition though). Good luck!
