Professor Igo is a good professor. He goes out of his way to give you the best grade possible in the class. He puts on reviews himself and gives you hints as to what he puts on the exams. He does a lot to help! You have to do the rest to get the A. The final exam was difficult but fair because he tells you what to study for, literally. If you know your stuff, you'll do okay.
Prof Igo is one of my favorite professors at UCLA thus far. not only is he a sweet cute little man, he cares a LOT about his students. he makes adjustments to his grading throughout the quarter to ensure that all students putting forth enough effort WILL get a good grade. he made one of our midterms out of 75 points instead of 100, which gave tons of people A's on a test that honestly was not too difficult to begin with. grading, homework, and tests are definitely fair, and he will never make you feel bad for asking questions in lecture. his demos are relevant and endearing since they rarely work the first time he tries them. the tiny math errors he makes on examples really just sharpen the students because we won't catch an error if we don't understand what's happening. DEFINITELY take Prof Igo if you can for physics!
Igo is by the far the easiest of the 6A teachers. We only covered about 10 chapters, and he assigned 8-10 problems each week. Attending discussion is optional, but the TA will help with homework problems. Igo allowed one page of notes and gave out bonus questions on every exam. If you've taken AP Physics and had a halfway decent teacher, coming 15 or 20 minutes late (if at all) to lecture is no big deal. Write down the formulas and examples he puts on the board as it will help you do the homework. I suggest buying the optional 'study guide and solutions manual' if you're not familiar with physics. Igo rarely assigns problems that are covered by the manual, but it's a good review for exams.
Prof. Igo is a very nice man.I really enjoyed his class. He made some mistakes on the board but only little math errors that weren't a big deal. I really thought that the class was very very easy. His midterms were very fair and he gave the topics that would be on the exam. the final was a little tougher but not that much more then a regular exam. I really recomend this teacher, however be ready to put in the time on reading the book. Lectures helped to get hints on the types of questions that would be on exams. Also HW problems were always tougher then exam problems so if you really understand the book you will get an easy A.

Professor Igo is very old, his class is extremely boring, his exams are not the most difficult but they are not easy either, so you must study hard, the really good thing about him is that he offers a lot of opportunity for you to raise your grade, if you do bad on one of his two midterms he cuts the percentage of that midterm in half and puts it on the final, in the end he gives you the best possible grade you can get, in fact, if you do poorly on both midterms and you ace the final I think you will get that grade, but don't expect to learn much in class, you will be teaching yourself, and if you don't like to go to discussions make sure to go to the discussions before each midterm and the final, professor Igo's reviews do nothing, just go incase he mentions a hint on what may be on the exams.
Ok, this review is intended only for smart and hard working students who are thinking of taking Igo for physics. Do it, you'll get a good grade.
LECTURES: I thought he was a good teacher. Like the other posts said, he did make some mistakes on the board like leave a negative sign out of an equation; but like I said, if you are smart, then you would have (like me) been paying attention in class, caught the mistake, and brought it up to his attention afterwards. I did and the next lecture he announced the error and corrected it.
TESTS: his midterms are fair. Not too hard but if you do the hard homework problems and his review problems (GO TO HIS REVIEWS), then you should be fine. Also, go to his office hours if you have trouble with the homework. But his final was long and tricky. It really made you think about everything you learned the whole quarter.
Finally, like I said, if you're smart, take his class because he might weigh your lowest midterm score really low. It was unbelievable that an entire midterm would be worth a little more than the homework. And since most of the people in the class don't seem to learn from him, you'll be able to pull of a solid A+.
If you have the choice between Waung and Igo take Waung. Professor Igo is a very sweet and nice guy, but his teaching style is a bit boring and he does make quite a few mistakes. I hate physics with a passion. Most of the time I didn't understand what he was doing in lecture (as mentioned before, he likes to derive formulas more than doing examples), I just copied it down and looked at it later...like before the exam..hehe. Anyhow, I somehow managed to pull off an A. Here's what I did for this professor's class:
1. Homework: Igo doesn't assign too much HW. He assigns a fair amount, some hard and some easy. It's imperative to get a 100% on the HW to help you if u didn't do well on the exams. So go to all or most of his office hours (Forget covel tutoring! It's a complete waste of time! They make a bunch of mistakes...besides the professor makes your exams so don't u wanna hear what he has to say?) and ask him to do as many problems from the HW as possible. He does them all and tries to make sure everyone there understands what he's doing. He's great at office hours and very helpful.
2. Lecture: Dry, boring. I was falling asleep even with the coffee I drank before his class.
3. Exams: He didn't have mock exams for us. But if you can get exams from past classes use those to study because he recycles those problems or makes similar problems to those. For studying for exams, I didn't bother going over HW. All I did was I went through the notes and did all the problems he did in lecture, then I did the review session problems, then I looked at Waung's exams from last year. A lot of the same exact problems showed up =)
That's about it. He's pretty easy, but Waung is more effective in teaching I think.
Igo is a really nice guy but his lectures arent that helpful though. He spends most of the time deriving equations but hardly tells us how to do the problems. He is a really nice guy though..he tries to help you out in anyway possible. His exams arent that bad..but they arent that easy either.
All I have to say is that PHYSICS SUCKS. It is super hard (it was for me anyways) and coming to his lectures did not help me to understand the material any better. (Good luck when you get to torque!!!) The lab is absolutely worthless...a complete waste of time. Professor Igo is a nice man, however his teaching style was not effective for me. He often makes mistakes in his examples on the board, so watch out for those. His little demonstrations are often amusing, but there aren't enough of those. I haven't had other professors to be able to compare with though. The homework also took me a long time because the book questions are relatively hard. But you can try him out for yourself if you absolutely must take physics.
