This class is hard if you are not into science. He has a really strong accent which makes it impossible to understand the material. I do not recommend going to lectures because they are a waste of time. Also, it was hard because in lecture he goes through the material very fast and does not explain, also he only gives one example of a problem so when you get to the homework, it is impossible to do. i ended up with a B on the class but i did spend the last 5 weeks in the TA's office. Do not take it as a GE, its not worth the pain. There are 2 midterms, which are hard but he allows a shit of notes. the final is just the two midterms combined. Do all the homework and go to TA hours, dont go to lectures, and discussion is sometimes helpful.

The lectures are worthless unless you already happen to be around campus, in which case you will find a heavy accent and the history of all the topics you are going to have to learn the formulae for yourself. The demonstrations are very fun, the TA is the most important person in determining your success in the class, and the exams, if you've taken physics before, are a breeze. If you're good at learning on your own, or like getting to know your TA, I highly recommend this class.

Like everyone said, you're fine if you skip lecture, but I encourage you to attend discussion because your TA (mine was Brett) will make clear what to know for the midterm and final. If he asks any question for the class, write it down. It'll prolly show up on the exam. There's no point in reading the book, but it helps to understand some of the homework problems. That's the thing that sucks about this class- you get weekly homework problems, and they're not too difficult, but they're a hassle. Nevertheless, as long as you do 'em (even if you get wrong answers), you get full credit for the work. Attend Brett's office hours and he'll give you all the answers for the homework problems, anyway (as well as hints to what's on the midterm and final!). And when you get the practice midterm and final, memorize it! The actual midterm is practically the exact imitation (conceptually). Overall, pretty easy class.

The professor has the thickest accent ever, so I couldn't understand barely a word he said. There is absolutely no point in going to class. SERIOUSLY don't go, it is a waste of time. Don't even bother printing out/studying the lecture notes either because they don't correlate with anything. Do the homework, go to discussion, and hope you have a good ta. The midterms and the final are exactly the same as the practice midterms/finals so study those well and write out the problems word-for-word on your one page of notes you get to have with you during the tests. it will help. overall, the class is pretty easy, even for those people like me who don't get physics at all. I don't think i learned ANYTHING in that class, but it fulfilled the ge, so thats all that matters!

If you are looking for an easy GE, this is the one to take. I took high school regular physics and this was even easier than that. I came to lectures for like the first 2 weeks and then I realized that they don't help at all. The key to doing well in this class is reading the book and going to discussion. My ta Brett was really good and always hinted at what was going to be on the midterms. That said, I got 100 on both the midterms so far and I am yet to take the final. But i'm really not worried at all. Bottom line is Prof Gruner is a g; he's a really chill guy. Take this class if you owned high school physics.

I couldn't really understand his lectures because of his accent. It was hard to pay attention in class. However, his TA Erika Artukovic was really good. I learned almost everything for the class from her. GO TO DISCUSSION!!! THat is how you will learn your material. She's very engaging and makes the material seem more understandable and easier. This class, I felt, was not hard at all. Midterms and Finals you get to have a full cheat sheet.

This class really depends on your TA. Choose wisely.

Lectures are very pointless unless taught by his TA, Erica, who I dont think is teaching anymore. This class was sooooooo easy and I hate the sciences. Make sure the TA can explain the concepts because absolutely nothing relevant is learned in the lecture. Everything is taught in the section and the physics is very basic. The curve was a whole letter grade.
2 midterms, each 20 percent
homework, 20 percent- you can get all the querstions wrong and still get a 9\\10
final 40 percent
you can have a sheet of notes on each test with everything and anything that you need for the final

I did not think Prof. Gruner was an effective teacher, or that Physics 10 with him was a gratifying experience.

He glossed quickly over concepts and most importantly didn't solve any example problems, so many people who understood the concepts didn't know how to apply them when the first midterm rolled around.

As a result, the curve in the class was ridiculous, and I felt like I got an A just for putting ink on paper.

In general, I don't think he cared much about this class, as he never knew basic details about the homework assignments like where to turn them in or when they were due, and never cared to post test result statistics.

Sadly, the best thing to happen in this class was him leaving for two weeks. This gave Erika, one of his grad students, a chance to teach the class. She was very animated and engaging, broke concepts down and spoon-fed them to us, and did sample problems so we actually knew how to apply them. If she had taught the whole quarter, I think I would have gotten much more from the class.

Gruner is a good professor. At first, it was really hard to understand what he was talking about because of his accent. He is very knowledgable and entertaining with his jokes. He is very concern for student learning and tries to answer all questions. He's an easy grader and makes the curve generous. I got 14 out of 25 on the first mid-term and still managed to receive a B+ on it! I highly recommend his course if you can tolerate his accent.

Gruner is so loving! He really is compassionate for us north campus major. Plus, Erika was the best TA i've ever had! At times, Gruner is hard to understand but he's so crazy that it doesn't matter. You learn everything in discussion and they make sure you get something out of the few science courses you have to take.
