Fiat Lux: Diversity and Effective Leadership
This class is in high demand; I was lucky enough to get into it. This fiat lux was phenomenal, and Chancellor Gene is very personable and not intimidating in the slightest; he's the definition of extraordinary. This was one of the most valuable classes I've ever taken, even if it was only a unit.
Took Gene Block's Fiat Lux and it was a great course. The class had a couple of readings but no assessments or assignments. I'd recommend it as a way to network with other motivated students and guest lecturers who are either professors or notable professionals. Gene is awesome. He is really nice and really cares about student input. Part of the reason he put the course together is so he could get more student feedback about UCLA's initiatives and interact with students on a more personal level. If you ever have the chance to take anything with him I would highly recommend it.
Hands down the best class ever at ucla! You get to see chancellor Block every other week and there were in total four guest speakers that are past chancellors. It has no homework besides do some basic research and come up with questions for chancellors before class. I looked forward to this class every week. The class is super chill, really fun, and you get to learn interesting history/story of ucla that you can brag to your friends about. You also learn the obstacles each chancellor faced for the past about 50 years and it really gives you a new perspective on the role of leaders at ucla. I definitely strongly recommend this class and as a bonus you even get to see the chancellor's residence in the last class!
