take this professor. hes hilarious! initially i was a bit skeptical of the class seeing as how there was only a midterm paper and a final paper. just talk to your ta and find out what they want since they grade them. i didnt even read all the books and i managed to bs my way into a b+. thats not to say its super easy. i dont advise this, but i read the material after he lectured on it so i knew what to look for. dont be intimidated by the 40 60 paper thing. anyone can manage at least a b in this class. way better than phil 7.

in addition to that, this prof likes to jump a lot while hes talking and is all over the place. very entertaining. in one lecture he actually walked into the door repeatedly to illustrate a point. his eccentricities make the class worth while.

Professor Lawrence cares genuinely about his students. He is a very kind professor who is extremely passionate about philosophy. I am definitely not interested in philosophy, but he describes things in such a way that anyone can understand. The reading and material may be intimidating and Phil 22 is not the class to take to "fulfill a GE". However, if you apply yourself, this class is easy to pass (I got an A-). The reading is actually short and easy to understand. The TAs in this class are very understanding, and the discussions are not mandatory. There is a 40% midterm paper and a 60% final in-class essay (the prompts are given in advance). He also gave a couple of reviews at the end that were really helpful. His handouts and lectures address the exams 100%. Overall, he is a very caring, intelligent teacher. Still, I would not recommend this class to non-philosophy majors ... just because it is harder than Phil 2 or 7 ... and it isn't known to be "as interesting."

Professor Lawrence is very passionate about ethics. He's also a really nice man and ethical genius. Phil 22 is actually one of those few rewarding courses you take college; you learn about morality and try to discover what it truly means to be moral.

The class isn't particularly hard, but it's definitely harder than Phil 7 or Phil 2. That's because you really learn and think philosophically in this class unlike those other two classes where you can get away with not putting in much philosophical thought. Lawrence approaches arguments from almost every possible philosophical angle, so be prepared. To facilitate learning he writes almost everything on the board and provides helpful handouts. The handouts come in handy for the midterm and the final.

My only complaint is that he has a very noticeable anti-Hume bias -- whice he does not deny. He is a staunch defender of the Greek school of philosophy.

But overall, I'd defintiely recommend him.

Professor Lawrence is an incredibly engaging and enigmatic teacher. He has a true passion for ethics, and if morality has ever been an aspect of humanity you wish to explore then this class is the way to do it. This class is cool in both ways that most students consider; it isn't THAT difficult to begin with (and he explains things well), and you will actually come out of the class having learned something and perhaps thinking about life a little differently. Also, he is quite entertaining and funny which make the lectures move a little faster.

He is a strange professor, often jumping around the stage and speaking in funny voices. He explains the material fairly well, but i relied heavily on the TA to more clearly clarify what was going on. It wasn't the most entertaining class, but for how much I hate philosophy, the class was done well enough to make it somewhat interesting to me.

Professor Lawrence is a passionate professor and was interesting to listen to during lecture. His class was not bad at all, the class consisted of two essays one 40% and one 60% overall the grading depends on your TA so take this class it's not too bad you'll get something out of it.
