Professor Shin is really funny. He makes LS1 a decent class by making seemingly boring concepts like evolution into interesting topics. He has a great sense of humor and cares for student learning.

His tests aren't your typical "memorize and regurgitate" type of exams. Especially for the first exam, which is on evolution, he really tests on whether you understand the material not if you just know what the definition of evolution is. Make sure you understand the concepts and memorize the lecture slides.

Otherwise his class is pretty enjoyable! I know many students complaining about his curve, which I admit isn't the greatest, but the workload during the summer is way way way less than the amount of work kids put into LS1 during the school year (especially in demos).

my first impression of him was that he was a funny, chill professor who constantly made jokes about how dumb CSULB is (he's a professor there during the school year). however, i quickly found that i was wrong. yes he seems funny and nice and tries to make a horribly boring topic more interesting, but when I actually tried to talk to him outside of class he was flippant and annoyed that I was even talking to him. His ability to actually teach us the material was mediocre. His slide shows werent the best but they weren't the worst either. His tests weren't "hard" exactly since the nature of the topic just calls for memorization, but he made a horrible curve. I did well above both the mean on the midterm and final (both were multiple choice btw) but somehow got a flat B. Maybe it was because it was summer and you wont get a W when you drop a class so about 40 people who werent doing well dropped the class on the day of the final and he didn't take those people into consideration when he curved. Overall, he's a decent lecturer, not very available, and inconsiderate when making the curve over the summer.
