Unless this class is part of your major, DO NOT TAKE IT WITH THIS PROFESSOR. He has a terribly thick accent that made all his lectures completely incomprehensible. Even if you manage to understand every other word he says, his lectures are very monotone and will bore you to death. Granted, the subject he is teaching is not very exciting, he still makes the class insanely boring with the lack of activities there are and by the way he just speaks at you for an hour straight. By week 3, 80% of the class stopped showing up to lecture. Other than that, for some reason, he makes his tests pretty difficult with the mean for the midterm being a 66% and a 70% for the final (NOTE THAT HE DOES NOT CURVE). He also does not give any credit for any late assignments, no matter what your excuse is. There are many other classes that you can take to satisfy whatever requirement this classes checks off.
I would not recommend this class. I took it to fulfill a GE and while the day to day work load was manageable because it's just a lot of textbook readings and lecture, exams were so hard. Lecture attendance is not mandatory toward the end of the quarter, but can stand for extra credit. However the prof's accent is very thick he's difficult to understand. Lecture was difficult to engage with. When I would ask prof or the TA questions they would honestly respond with "I don't know".... that was discouraging, and made this course even more difficult. The midterm and final were very hard, a lot of conceptual topics difficult to grasp if you have no background in meteorology and weather. the final exam's average was like a b+ and no curve was given .
This class was a mixed bag. Love the professor and TA (sweetest people) but the class was just not it. Firstly, both of them have heavy accents (even as a Chinese student I couldn't really understand them). As a result, very few of us paid attention and even went to class. The discussions were simple enough, but the TA was kinda harsh in grading the worksheets. The midterm and final were both online and proctored, but the questions were really difficult since no one paid attention to the material.
He does offer a lot of extra credit though.
