The course is a very good course with lots of good information. Though the professor does tend to talk too fast at times, she does repeat what is important. GO! to class, listen and take good notes because she only puts up outlines of her slides at the website; and the outlines are really outlines with only headings and things like that. Also, keep up with the readings for she tests from the text and lecture. Language development is an interesting topic and so you should consider taking this course, expecially if you are looking into child development. You will learn a lot! Therefore despite some of the professor's flaws, she was well organized, highly knowledgeable, and pretty fair in her exams. Testing on only the main overall concepts...things that she would want you to know "five years from now." Good Luck! :)
while she's not the worst prof at UCLA, she's definetly below average. good things first, she does try to teach concepts over memorization (as much a possible) and she does integrate some nice videos into the course. however she does have a lot of faults. first off, she refuses to use a microphone in class and instead shouts in a high pitched whine which is just painful to hear. secondly, she moves much too fast thru her slides, glossing over seemingly important topics and instead spending 10 min going into much too much detail on examples of Downs' patients speech. very frustrating. also, she teaches at another school on off days and is therefore NEVER available to talk to, and didn't even attempt to arrange a review session for the final. even when people challanged her to find time, she was very uncompromising. grr. for exams, she did not give any sort of indication as to format of the test. her grading was overly harsh, and even blatantly incorrect at points. grr again. approach with caution.
