I just finished reading Maddox's "Alphabet of Manliness" again and I head to check for my math grade. It's been nearly week since our final and the grade isn't up yet. I'm not complaining; instead, I'm actually glad. The longer it takes for my grade to come back, the higher the chance it's going to be graded more generously. This professor forces our TAs to repeatedly generously regrade our tests until the results look decent. To him, the satisfaction of his students, us, comes first.

Gentlemen and ladies, may I present you Doctor Frederick E. Park. We share a common goal when we surf the depths of bruinwalk.com: to find the easiest, most efficient and most approachable professors. Dr. Park is one of them. He teaches directly out of the book and occasionally adds some supplementary information to the topics. Still in his 20s at the time this review is written, according to another post below, he is very easy to talk to. During lectures, he speaks in two languages: non-Asian-accented English and Sarcasm. You'll find him quite entertaining and enjoyable, as his classes are not dry (does that mean they're wet?).

I sat through the quarter without taking a single note and I expect a good mark in the class. As said before, he teaches directly out of the book. Jotting down what he writes on the board will only facilitate your learning. Expect to be amazed by his utmost beautiful drawings and depictions of graphs and equations; the school should send them in to the museum.

Dr. Park offers two grading schemes, like a few other professors. Of the two schemes, he automatically takes the higher calculated overall grade at the end of the quarter.
1. Homework - 10%, Midterm 1 - 25%, Midterm 2 - 25%, Final - 40%
2. Homework - 10%, Midterm 1/2 (whichever is higher) - 25%, Final - 65%

There are a total of 10 homework assignments in the quarter and the lowest two homework grades are dropped. Your grade is unaffected by the class, meaning there's no curve.

His tests are very straightforward. If you study homework questions and example problems at the beginning of each section, you could very well end up with an A. Again, his priority is the students' satisfaction. Professors tend to balance the difficulty of tests (making one hard after an easy one, and vice-versa), but Dr. Park makes each test simple and direct.

There are only two reasons why you shouldn't take Dr. Park.
1. If "you're a glutton for punishment" (Corbin). Or as I would put it, "academic masochist". Dr. Park's tests didn't have any proofs and there weren't any problems on the tests that caused me to brainfart. Take another professor if you want harder questions. I'm not complaining.
2. If you're a scammer. Dr. Park will diagnose you as one if you walk into lectures with a clipboard and ask students to provide contact info on it. Unless you're part of his selected list of tutor groups, Dr. Park does not advocate that; he'll banish you to the Shado-- er, he'll banish you to jail.

Otherwise, take Dr. Park. He'll look after you.

This is the second 30 series math class I've had with him. I'd say he's one of the best math lecturers I've had. He's very intelligent but know hows to communicate everything in a way that is understandable. Unlike a lot of teachers who teach you things way beyond the scope of the class, he keeps it simple and usable. Everything is slimmed down to the must understandable and effective level. If you have a chance to take Park go for it. You will actually learn the material and be tested fairly.

Park is a really good professor. I had him for two quarters and I'd definitely recommend you take him. His class is pretty straightforward, as long as you study the practice midterms. If you don't do well, he's very helpful in office hours too. He definitely wants his students to do well, and he'll do a lot to make sure you get the grade you deserve.
