Park was a really good professor, despite my hatred for the class--which may cloud my evaluation of him. I did not like Linear Algebra, because it did not come easy for me..With no fault at all to the professor. Park's lecture style is, as previously stated, straight-forward & easy to follow along. I feel as if they were necessary just because I really got a lot out of what he was saying, and less out of the book as the quarter progressed. Tests are fair..I KNEW for a fact, that I failed the first midterm, but somehow, shitted out a 90/100, and got an 87 on the second. Take Park, class was not easy--for me, but a lot of other people say it is though. Also, make sure you have the full solutions--period.
Park is an excellent professor and probably the best one I have had in my two years here. His class is very organized and the lectures are very clear. And he is not your typical professor. He is a younger guy in his late 20's and keeps you entertained with jokes rather than boring you to death during lecture. Towards the second half of the quarter i went to his office hours every week and he is very helpful. Though he is very busy with research, he is always quick to communicate through email and schedule office hour appointments if needed. If you are going to take 32A or any math class i would take it with him. I got an A in his class and the previous quarter i got a C+ in 31B with a different professor. Just beware that all the smart kids take Park because he is a great lecturer.
Park is the man. Simple rule: If you need to take a math class, and he's teaching it, take his class.
By the way, I got an A. I can't help but think that Park's generous grading may have saved made my grade, but I'm not complaining.
I hate math, but somehow, Dr. Park made this class bearable. His lectures are entertaining, he doesn't go off on inapplicable tangents, he actually cares that his students learns the materials neccesary for higher level math classes. He is hilarious, full of sarcastics jokes, and is obsessed with drawing his pictures correctly, to the enjoyment of the class.
However, be aware that his midterms are very difficult. I almost dropped the class after the first one thinking I got a 30%. Even if you think you did terribly, don't be alarmed- Park gives away points and is VERY generous with partial credit.
If Park is available, take him. If he is not available, wait till the next quarter when he is.
Park is a great teacher. His practice midterms and practice final are amazing tools for success. Let me just go over some negatives that other people haven't said...
His grading scheme is so generous that it can hurt you sometimes. Some of my friends deserved 40%'s on some midterms but Park just HANDS OUT points for nothing. So in essence if you happen to do well on the first MT, you kinda get screwed out of it because everyone else's grades below you are drastically augmented. If i had done poorly on my final i would've been PISSED at his grading scheme. As it is, i'm not complaining, but just heads up on his grading. Also, he only has like one office hour all week so it's very difficult to reach him.
Overall he's a good teacher. You do not have to attend lecture at all. ever.
I LOVE PROFESSOR PARK!
his class is amazing! it has honestly been one of my favorite classes at UCLA ever! his lectures are always entertaining with Park making nerdy, sarcastic jokes. He is also very helpful and open during office hours, making students feel welcome outside of class. Also his tests are pretty easy as his study guides and review sessions are EXTREMELY helpful. TAKE PARK FOR MATH! IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
I took his course spring quarter of 09. His exams are extremely straightforward. Study his practice exams over and over again and you will be fine. I got B's on my two midterms, where one was below average and the second was average, and yet I still ended up with an A in the class. His two grading schemes really help you out. Take his class over any other professors!
easily the best professor i have ever taken, whether it be math or not. midterms and finals are straightforward; no weird, tricky questions other prof's tend to throw in. amazing lecturer, clear and to the point.
