The professor did not offer clear or applicable information to technology. Although it is a very easy low key class, it seems that the professor is not engaged in students' learning and puts in minimal effort when it comes to lesson planning. He frequently falls asleep and seems to be lacking in technological expertise despite the class's title and purpose. The students are more adept at navigating software than the professor.
Frank Heuser is far past the prime of his career, and is deteriorating quickly in terms of his teaching methods for college students. He frequently falls asleep during class and leaves students with vague and unproductive assignments, which is incredibly disrespectful to students who are paying for an education. In addition, he is a very spiteful teacher and gives unnecessarily condescendingly and rude comments. His criticisms are extremely hurtful- he frequently tells students they need to switch fields or that they are professional failures rather than offer a supportive learning environment.
The material of the class is important to the field which makes it even more agonizing that the teacher is god awful. The work and reading he assigns are lengthy and tedious often repeating themselves or circle jerking over concepts that aren’t applicable in the actual field of music education. I’m surprised he hasn’t fallen asleep on his commute to work because he spends the majority of every class sleeping in the back and making the students run the learning process (Almost like a bad student! Isn’t that ironic). Spending an entire quarter forcing students to study and prepare for situations that are very uncommon in the actual field is a waste of everybody’s time. The sentiment of the class is to be prepared for anything as a teacher but nothing is actually done to prepare you, aside from assure you that you’ll never get a job teaching the subject you actually want and you’ll have to settle for teaching 4 mediocre choirs, a terrible orchestra, and a steel pan drum band as opposed to anything you might actually want to engage in. Altogether uninspired, boring, tedious, and useless class.
