Took a chance with this professor as he had no reviews because what could be worse than 120B?

I really tried to like this guy since he does care about the class and tries his best lecturing BUT man I really hated coming to this class. He sometimes confuses himself in lecture while I'm already struggling to pay attention. Really the only saving grace of this class was the mandatory section which would go into further depth on topics (get Maureen Gray as a TA or perish). His tests are unnecessarily difficult (and a fan on the cursed E answer choice). While the in-class / online quizzes and essay were easy assignments, the tests just make you feel like you wasted your time going over his 400+ review slide compilation. Perhaps reading the book could have helped but I wouldn't know because I can't read. You're probably better off taking this with someone else.

TRUST ME! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Professor Mettler is a nice and knowledgeable person, but he is not good at teaching. The slides were terrible, around 400 slides for midterm and another 400 slides for final. It was better to read the textbook as the slides were really confusing.

Professor was very caring. He understood the class was tough and provided extra credit points going to SONA studies. Also, cut us a break on quizzes that helped out our grades a lot. He pretty much gave us full points if we got 2 or more right. The only difficult thing about this class was understanding material on slides. I would read the textbook and take good notes and record his lectures. Go to his office hours if you do not understand. I messed up and did not do any of these. An A is definitely doable in his class if you study his slides with stars which he provides because there is a lot of slides. Discussion is mandatory and essay for this class is super easy. Overall, the professor cares about the students. There was a curve that could only help your grade say you have A- it could only go up to A or A+ if you are in the upper percentile of grades in the class.

He is a funny and caring professor. However, the materials and exams are quite hard. The ways he framed questions and used to explain materials are a bit difficult to understand. The averages were like 80 on both exams. But do not freak out. There are other points to help your grade. I scored like 85 on both exams (tho I thought I did ok on the final) and I ended up getting an A. He also curved within ranges.
There are like 2% extra credits and a paper (which is easy to do).
Textbook is required but I have never used it. I would say understanding materials on slides are fine.
Overall, I like this professor!
