Awesome,awesome, awesome, awesome

Best south campus professor I've encountered in my 4 quarters here. She goes over all the material very systematically.

2 quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final. The material is straightforward, but the midterm is tricky.

The hardest part of the class is phase diagrams, which I still do not understand to this day (after the class is over now). Study those, and the other stuff is not too bad

great lecturer, never got bored or fell asleep. sweet lady, reminds me of a nice elementary school teacher. knowledgeable of material, lectures are very well prepared and organized. First quiz is easy, but beware, it throws you off for the midterm, which is HARD. PUT EVERY GRAPH IN THE BOOK ON YOUR CHEAT SHEET and know how to graph any and everything else. the final is the same way. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK TO SUCCEED on the midterm and final. if you do (the book is a very good textbook), you will do well.

Professor Lan is a pretty good professor. Her lectures are clear and organized. She always has one part on her exams that has conceptual questions taken directly from her lectures, so make sure you study the lecture notes. Throughout the quarter, she gives two quizzes, one midterm, and one final. Her exams are not difficult. Most of the questions are very similar to the homework. Because everyone has the solutions manual to the book, almost everyone gets 30/30 on the 5 homework assignments. You need to go to discussion because there are three lab reports based on experiments that are conducted by the TAs. The weeks that there are no lab reports, the TAs usually go over extra problems that often show up on the exams. Overall, this class is not that difficult. Even if you don't do well on everything, the professor tries to help everyone get a good grade and even offers opportunities for extra credit.
