I don't like the fact that make us to buy a course reader that has no use(Desma 10 fall 2017), so I'll put it on sale for any price that you want. I hope it be useful for you; though it was not to me **********

This was a great class! Professor Erkki is really passionate about the stuff he teaches and assigns fun projects for students. Midterm is practically a breeze and final is doable if you get in a good group. Definitely recommend this as GE!

DESMA 10 was an interesting course, and Erkki is a quirky guy. The three hour lecture on Friday morning is a drag and more than likely, you'll fall asleep. But don't worry, he puts the slides online! However, attendance is taken in this class in the middle of class. That being said, most people left after attendance was taken and at about week 7, Erkki began to notice and began to take attendance in the middle and the end to ensure students stayed. The workload for this class is not too bad, there are readings out of the course reader assigned. There are only three quizzes based on these readings and the lecture previous (they happen around week 3, 6, and 9). The lowest quiz score is dropped and one of the quizzes is purposely extremely easy. There are also two papers that make up the bulk of your grade. The midterm is done alone and the final is done in a group. For these, I highly recommend starting the papers early and going to TA office hours to revise the paper as they are the ones who will be grading the papers, not Erkki. You'll also have to go to 2 design related events and write a blurb about them. Finally, Week 5 of class is dedicated for the Design Game which is a group scavenger hunt in which you have to identify some design concepts across campus. He also offers an extra credit opportunity which is just posting comments in a discussion board. I highly recommend doing this, it raises your final grade by one step (e.g. from an B+ to an A-). Plus, you'll have no idea what your grade is at a given moment until he releases final grades. Better to be safe than sorry. Overall, not a bad GE, pretty captivating. Just a lot of reading and writing.

Erkki is great, and we all know that he put lots of time into his lecture notes and make them as interesting as possible! However, Erkki is not that easy, because the group project takes a lot of time and thinking in fact, especially the final one. On the other hand, his projects forces us to think outside of the box. If you want to see some cool design that you have never seen in your life, go to his class. But it's very easy to fall asleep in his class: 1. the lights are off when the lecture is on.

Easy GE. I got a B on the midterm and about a C average on all three quizzes (none of which were dropped), but I'm fairly certain my hard work on the final earned me the A I ultimately received in this class. Overall, the homework load is very light and the grading is forgiving.

Professor Huhtamo is really passionate about design. I personally really enjoyed his class and liked his enthusiasm about the subject. The class from what I remember had 2 outside event reviews, one midterm essay where the course reader was helpful,a scavenger hunt, and the final which was a time capsule about design objects. Attendance was also taken since the class only met once a week. Most students left after attendance was taken however I personally recommend staying and listening to his lectures as they are useful when writing the midterm and final essays.
Overall it was a pretty easy GE and totally manageable. You don't really have to do the readings that are assigned but its pretty useful to skim though them as you have to refer to them and cite them in the midterm essay.
There are two group work opportunities, one was the scavenger hunt that the TAs and the Professor organized that was fairly entertaining and incorporated large portions of the campus. The other opportunity was working on the final as a group. I personally did the final on my own and it was completely manageable, however I would suggest starting on it early because part of it also includes putting together a diagram of the time capsule as well as including a specific number of citations.
This is a fairly easy GE, I got an A and really enjoyed the class.
