I absolutely loved this class. The professor is a fantastic lecturer and the units were super interesting (at least for someone who loves political science). His slides are very clear and so are his explanations. I went to class every time and took diligent notes. He posts the recording and slides! I had an online quiz every week. If you actually understand the topic, the quizzes will be fine. I usually got a 13-15/15. I never once read the textbook. We had one big paper that was worth 50% of our grade. I worked very, very hard on it and got a 90%. I think an A in this class is very feasible if you put in the work.
Professor Min is a great teacher. He is super funny and his lectures were always enjoyable to watch. My interest in the topic grew after this course, even though I am not a huge fan of poli sci content. Max was an engaging TA, but the lectures and sections often felt disconnected. Also, the whole course was aimed at writing a paper about a conflict, which taught me a lot about this specific conflict, though I think different assignments would have been more interesting to me, with maybe just a white paper being the final. It was a group project with 3 other people, which was hard to coordinate, and the length of the paper with not many clear guidelines was difficult. Overall, though, I enjoyed the lectures, and professor min is great!!
Let me start by saying this class is not like an easy easy GE, but I think the information you get out of this class is top tier. In a really changing world what you get out of this class is so so important. In regards to this class it is divided by TA attendance and participation, Midterm, Paper, and final. You have to study the material and there is a lot of vocab to memorize but if you study like 5 days before you should be good. The professor is top tier and is extremely clear in the way he organizes his lectures. I highly recommend anyone take this class.
Prof. Min was one of the best professors I've had at UCLA, and he's well-knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his subject. His slides are extremely clear and well-organized, and frankly the only thing you need to study to ace his class (the class is assigned a textbook, but it really isn't necessary). He's incredibly engaging and gives a lot of examples in class, and the syllabus is well-structured.
Our only assignment other than the midterm and final was the analysis paper, which was broken into various assignments across the quarter. The topic is easily researchable, and the TAs are helpful when giving feedback.
The midterm and final were both extremely doable. They were a combination of short answer and multiple choice, and everything could be found on the slides. They were similar to the practice tests he provided, and he even added extra points to everyone's midterms and finals to boost the class average. Overall a very manageable and fun class, and I truly think I learned a lot.
Professor Min is a very good lecturer. You really don't need to do the textbook readings. He gives fill in the blank slides with bolded words, and those are the best study tools, as most of the content for the midterm and final comes from that. Participation matters, but they don't emphasize it, but if you participate once per section you should be okay. The midterm and final were both super fair and he curved them. Also, he will curve the class if less than 35% of people get an A- or above. He is very helpful and a great professor.
One of the best professors I've had at UCLA. Class content delivery was very clear. Professor Min also made the class very interesting and interactive. The amount of reading can get a little heavy sometimes, but are overall not too difficult. As long as you do the readings and participate, you will be fine.
