Econ 103 is an AWFUL class, but if you're Bus-Econ or International Econ and can't avoid it, Moretti is definitely the best professor to take it with. He is one of the best professors in the department, and actually wants his students to understand the material. The hw is incredibly time consuming, even if you work in a group. It's definitely to your advantage to do it though. Besides, even if you copy it, it takes hours (not kidding). The midterm was way too easy, but don't get excited, b/c the final is impossible. HW is 30%, though, and his curve is really generous. (30% A, 30% B, 30% C, and 10% D or F). Again, avoid 103 if possible (every single one of the horror stories is true), but if he ever teaches another course, I wouldn't hesitate to take it.

Wow, NEVER have I taken such an awful class. I'm guessing that the other people who have written about Moretti were Math-Econ majors, because unless you like page long proofs, and equations with symbols like "beta one tilda hat," I cannot fathom how anyone could find this class interesting or relevant. The subject is not hard, but Moretti and his book complicate the subject endlessly. I had to reference my high school statistics book in order to find comprehendable explanations, as the book and the professor lacked anything understandable to the typical econ, bus-econ or international econ major. I know that this class is mandatory for some of you. If you can, wait for a better professor.. if you cant, Good luck...

There is a difference between the material being difficult/hard versus time-consuming. I don't think Econ 103 was difficult at all (i.e. understanding the material), but it was certainly enormously time consuming to finish the problem sets using Stata (THE COMMANDS!!! UGHHH!!! Could never remember any). If you found Calculus to be straight forward and intuitive, then Econ 103 should be the same (or easier). I think Enrico's lectures were excellent. He really emphasizes getting to the root of things and understanding the theory, rather than just going through problems. I mean, I really found lectures worthwhile, for a change. I think he is very clear and straight forward. The only one bad thing was that the midterm was super easy and the final was about 100 times harder. It's better to have the same level of difficulty on both, so you know what to expect (in case he reads this at some point). In general, VERY good, reasonable but still challenging professor.
