I do not recommend professor Osaka AT ALL. His lectures are bad, he writes stuff down and says what he is writing but provides no explanation. He is also very rude to some students for no reason. He records lectures but does not even post them. He also takes up so much time lecturing one section, he fails to review another section that he assigns for homework. I stopped paying attention to his lectures because I’m better off watching a YouTube video or asking my PLFs/TAs. His handwriting is so hard to understand but if you ask him he will clarify what it says. When you ask him a question or for help he does not answer your question instead answers something else. I believe he may assume we are all very good with pre calc but most of us took this in high school two years ago and don’t remember a thing. He is unfair at grading, he will dock you points on problems that are 100% correct and will give you a hard time when you ask him to correct it. He claimed to give extra credit on the midterm for sketching a graph and after he switched up and said he wasn’t giving extra credit for it. The homework is fairly light. The only reason why I do okay in this class is because of my prior precalc knowledge and YouTube. As well as the TAs. God, Yelena and Julia are actual angels. They help us all so much and explain things so well in PLF sessions. They helped us so much in preparing for the midterm. They are the only reason why most of the class is doing well.

COVID Edition***

I took this class with FSP. The Peer learning facilitators are amazing. If you come from a disadvantaged school or dont know anything about precalc you will struggle but I promise if you go to OH and schedule 1-to-1 meetings with the plfs you will pass with at least a C. Because of COVID the professor had to go really fast through the lectures which was not convenient but it's manageable. This class will require you to study a lot. Make sure you make study groups. There is two midterms and one final. If you do badly in the first midterm exam you can still pass the class. Professor provides a textbook and he's open to having zoom meetings with you. His writing is a bit sloppy and hard to understand but literally if you ask he will read out loud what it says to you. He wants to help you and so do the PLFs. They are really nice. The exams have about 10-12 questions but multiple parts to it. I recommend reading through the chapters before class to get a jist of what you'll be learning. I HIGHLY recommend asking questions so he can hear your voice. I promise he is the nicest person ever. The plfs are also really kind and have all accommodated to virtual learning appropriately. If you know precalc youll do fine! Goodluck !
