Professor Marchant was one of the best professors I've had at UCLA.
Her powerpoints are clear and straightfoward: the materials she covers always ties back to the readings and documentaries. If you keep up with the readings in class and take note of her lectures, it is an easy A.
She's truly concerned about her students and is passionate about her work! At the end she will offer to write letters or recommendations for her students; just get to know her and talk to her.

This is not a hard class. She is really organized, her lectures are power point bullets but she doesnt directly read off it--she adds to the subject verbally, so its not totally mindless. Going to class is not essential, but is much easier than reading. She lists off four main themes for the course right from the start so you pretty much know wats coming for the tests, and for the essay part u have options to pick from which is very nice. Also, watching the movies in class are so boring in my opinion, i never watched and then was forced to pick a topic during the mid/final--butt if your good with staying awake during the movies just go and thats automatic points on the mid/final (which are not culumative btw). basically u just have to memorize some glossary terms (again answer 5 of 8 on the test). very easyyyy pure memory. just cram. its not cumulative. she actually wants to u to do well and is not afraid to give you the A+ absolutely no critical thinking involved either

DEFINITELY TAKE THIS CLASS. This class is super easy. The film paper is fun. Totally boosts your GPA. Plus, Professor Marchant really cares about her students.

TAKE THIS CLASS. REPEAT, TAKE THIS CLASS. It's a GE and it is amazzzzzzinnggg! Beth Marchant really knows her ish. But she's not one of those cocky professors that flaunts her knowledge, she genuinely wants to share it with her students, in a completely comprehensible way. Her notes are so organized and clear, her lectures are engaging (except for the one time I fell asleep during the religion unit), and you get to watch a movie every other class meeting! If I were to grade this class, I would give it an A, not an A+ though, because her voice can sometimes be so soothing it sounds like a lullaby. If you ever get a chance, talk to her after lecture, she is probably the nicest woman you'll ever meet. nevermind, I give it an A+

GREAT PROFESSOR! You can REALLY tell she cares about the subject she's teaching. She not only gives you the raw information, but couples it with real-world personal stories and makes it so applicable to everything you're learning.

Professor Marchant is great, plain and simple. Though her lectures can be long and tiring (what history class isn't?), you can tell that she's passionate about the subject and really cares about her students. What really stuck out to me about this her was the fact that she went through all the midterms again after her TAs graded them and gave those who deserved it some more points she thought the TAs might've missed. That really shows something about her character. She's also welcoming during office hours and extremely easy to talk to. I definitely recommend taking any class with her.

She's such a sweet heart and easy going, it's hard not to get a good grade in the class.

Professor Marchant is awesome. She is the most friendly, care-free professor here at UCLA. She always made lectures fun and interesting, and managed to show several interesting videos to show us about Latin American culture rather than just reading about it in textbooks. I definitely recommend her for this class.

Prof. Marchant is such a cool person. She really made this class interesting because you can tell that she loves talking about Latin America and the Caribbean. Her class was very easy, and she makes it that way on purpose. You can actually learn something of value in her class rather than stressing about your grade. She's really nice and funny, too.

Professor Marchant is very concerned about her students and is always trying to boost their interest for the topic. Although the class was a large lecture, the Professor personally addressed student's concerns. Her exams are fair and she prepares us well for them. She is fantastic. Take her if you get the opportunity.
