This class inspired me to leave my first Bruinwalk review in order to warn all of you about the mess you are getting yourself into here. This should not be a difficult class. The information is not hard, and truthfully, there is not a lot to it. You go over maybe 5 total chapters in the entire course. Not bad right? WRONG. This class ended up giving me an exorbitant amount of stress because the professor does not know how to teach or write a test. You can understand all of the concepts, go to all the lectures, and still get Cs on the exams because they are designed so poorly.

- in her efforts to make our final challenging and stretch our thinking, prof simply made the questions convoluted and overly vague. oh, and don't forget that the majority of questions had typos which often made them difficult to even understand.
- even my TA who barely spoke english said that the graphs given on the tests were way too confusing and that all the TAs had to try and convince prof to make them more clear in future exams
- prof acts like an all knowing god even though she clearly has no idea what she's doing. every test felt like an experiment and we were the guinea pigs whose grades suffered the consequences.
- concepts that were repeatedly stressed as being INCREDIBLY important were not even on the test. instead, we were expected to have deep understandings of minor topics that were briefly glossed over during lecture and not even mentioned in the readings.
- there are basically no assignments in this class. sounds nice in theory, but in reality, there is hardly any way to prepare for the tests. the online textbook doesn't have relevant practice problems and the practice midterm/practice final given out right before the test looks nothing like the actual exam. you are going in blind whether you like it or not. instructions for the one essay we had seemed to change everyday to the point where even our TA admitted he didn't know what she was talking about in her emails about the assignment.

At the end of the day, this class will screw you over due to its extreme lack of organization and coherence. It's hard to prepare for and ace an exam which was written so poorly that your knowledge will barely help you. Prof seems like a nice person, but she seriously needs to get a proofreader and outside opinions about how to make a functioning test. Not everyone is cut out to be a teacher.

Good class if you're interested in the topic. The course is not very difficult and the workload is fairly light. You could get an A just by reading the textbook without showing up to class. If nothing else, she tries very hard to help you if you seek help during office hours. Exam grading metrics is definitely not the clearest, but if you show up to office hours and reason with her and show her you understand the topic, she is very lenient with regrading. All in all, I recommend it.

I took this class in Spring 2020, so with COVID & online learning. The class had no homework: just two midterms and a final, all multiple choice.

The pros: I think the class is generally not very hard, and there isn't much of a workload. As I said, no homework, and the content itself is not very hard (the models are still quite simple). Conveniently, all of the course content is in a set of slides that she takes from the textbook company, so you probably don't need the textbook.

That being said, I don't think Elham is a great prof: while she may be knowledgeable about the topic, I don't think she's a great lecturer - she usually reads off of her pre-set slides, but somehow makes them more confusing. Also, I think the questions in the midterms/final are occasionally confusing, especially as they aren't worded particularly well.

Wouldn't strongly recommend you take this class with her, but it wasn't the worst experience in the world. Definitely made me a bit less interested in macro.

Elham is a nice person. That being said, we need to be clear that not all nice people can be decent professors. Although she tries her best to be helpful to students in class or office hours, she's not very responsive to emails. She isn't very clear with what she expects from her students' answers on tests or on the group project. You'll not only get points marked off for not quoting her almost word for word on short answer portion of the test, but you'll also lose points for an absurd amount of points for small grammatical mistakes on your group project. If you're interested in the topic, you would be much better off to take Econ 106M.

I just took her for Econ 160 in Fall 2019. TBH she is one of the worst professors I have taken at UCLA. She gets side tracked very easily and adds no value to the slides, which are just some generic textbook slides. I honestly think she is better off standing there and just click next for the slides every 3 minutes while keeping her mouth shut. Her class is extremely boring and will not prepare you for anything. One up side(if that's you are after) is that her tests are extremely easy. I was able to finish her midterms in 20ish minutes and final in less than 80 minutes. I didn't even go to class for half the quarter.

Saeidinezhad is no longer teaching at UCLA so you don't have to worry about her. This was during the COVID-19 time period and she did not know how to adjust at all. Her lectures were her essentially reading the textbook verbatim. I did not spend any time on this class because how unmotivating it was and rather read the textbook. However, there were a couple clutch TAs that were very willing to help out which made it somewhat bearable. All her lectures were prerecorded so we never actually saw her. The exams had multiple mistakes and even the solution manual contradicted other things that were on the practice exam.
Her midterms were 30 MCQ and her final was 100 MCQ and was easy enough.
Her grading cutoffs were easy 95+ = A+ and 91+ = A.
If she returns back to UCLA, I would strongly recommend not taking her (though you will get an easy A)

The breakdown of this class is 10% discussion attendance, 10% Mindtap homework, 15% midterm 1, 15% midterm 2, 20% final blog, 30% final. In my opinion, the final blog/paper shouldn't be a thing especially since I feel like she sent out so many emails that it was hard to tell what she even wanted us to write about anymore. The tests were fair and straightforward. The Mindtap homework was also straightforward, but it just sucked that we had to pay about $100 for it. She shares her slides online, and you don't have to go to lecture if you just follow the slides. Her lectures were clear, but slow and boring. Overall, easy and straightforward class .

If you can avoid taking ECON 1 with Saeidinezhad, I'd recommend doing so. Her lectures are so slow that they nearly put me to sleep, and we got through only 4.5 out of the 6 chapters we were supposed to cover. When asked, our TA said that we will have to do a lot of self studying because of Saeidinezhad's poor pacing. The professor also goes off on tangents during lecture, often discussing macroeconomic concepts and upper-level microeconomic concepts which the students have absolutely no hope of understanding.
The class is relatively easy - there are online homework sets every couple of weeks, and the tests require minimal preparation. Getting an A isn't hard, but it's definitely not worth it - with Saeidinezhad you don't learn anywhere close to enough, and even what you do learn is often superficial. After having taken this course, I'd imagine ECON 11 will be an even more hellish experience than it's already made out to be.

Let me start by saying that this class was very easy. As someone who had never taken any econ besides the base requirement for highschool graduation, succeeding was a breeze. She isnt the most clear in lecture and often drones on about the same topic for way too long, but the slides she uses are very easy to learn from and her tests are pretty easy. Take this course.
