This class was one of my favorite classes at UCLA. I recommend it to everyone who can take it. If you are a Life Science Major, ask your counselor if it can count as a an elective because chances are they haven't seen it because it is new and they will let it count. The workload was heavy, but it was extremely rewarding. The professor makes the class very engaging.
While this class may have been one of the hardest classes I have ever taken at UCLA, I can say without a doubt that it is probably one of the best classes that this school has to offer. Dr. Hsiao takes a different approach to teaching than most professors — she focuses on actually teaching her students and to do so she challenges them. Her assignments are unique, for example, she asks students to take the material and create their own experiments, allowing students to apply their knowledge. For anyone pursuing a career in science, she will help you become a better scientist whether you want to go into medicine, research, dentistry, etc. Her TAs are highly knowledgeable and know their stuff. We have all had that TA that is not helpful so it is nice to have a TA that you can go to and who can actually answer your questions. Dr. Hsiao is also very approachable and helpful. Trust me, if you can take this class, do it! As long as you put in the work, you will absolutely love this class.
