I THOUGHT this was an easy class - wrong. Grade is based on take-home midterm and final - thats it. ok, also on attendance in section - roll is taken. So you bomb either the midterm or final, and there goes your A. Take-home midterm was easy. Multiple-choice final NOT so easy. REALLY hard to sit through his boring lectures - he's not the most engaging professor and doesnt seem to like to have his lecture interrupted by questions.

Professor Telles is a great professor although he may not be the most engaging. The material he presents in class about race and ethnicity is very interesting. There are a couple of books assigned that are to be read entirely but its manageable and they focus on other latin american countries he does not discuss in class since he mainly concentrates on Brazil in lecture. There are also a couple of films that are shown in class. The midterm and the final are not difficult if one attends lecture and discussion sections and do the readings. The TA is extremely helpful especially when you dont understand a concept in lecture or in the readings. Overall I think the course was valuable because I found out so much about different countries in latin america and how they differ in terms of their race relations.
