Professor Rhodes is very adept at teaching and explaining concepts. This class is not very difficult if you apply yourself and do maybe do a few readings and pay attention in lectures. However, it is not an easy-peasy class, so don't just take it because it's a GE, take it because you're interested in the material and want to learn it. The field trips are very helpful in actually understanding the concepts discussed in lectures, and he almost gives you the answers to all of his questions for his little write-up. His (1) midterm and final are all multiple choice, and he gives review questions in class. Overall, he's a good professor.

Great Professor, super funny and tries a little too hard to make lecture interesting. Really easy GE to take and get a B by not going or doing anything. And if you want an A just go to lecture and read a bit.

This class is very straightforward, but one must be careful not to underestimate it. While the subject material was boring, and probably will be to anyone that isn't a geology major, the class was extremely doable. The labs were very fun and interactive, and the TAs were helpful, the lectures were all posted online and accompanied with bruincasts. The tests were all multiple choice, and while they may have been tricky, so long as you do the reading from the textbook, pay attention in lab, and attend lecture, you should be fine. For someone that is not very interested in Earth Science, I got an A-, and I probably would have done better had I put in a little more effort in the class. It is a good GE that will get your lab out of the way.

Rhodes is a very funny man who makes his lectures interesting and gives test questions out during his classes that resemble the multiple choice questions that will be on the midterm and final. This is one of my easiest classes which makes it somewhat fun. The readings are a little boring, but since that's the closest thing to homework that you'll ever get assigned in this class, it's worth it. One thing you must study for the midterm is MINERALS! The hardest thing about this class is the labs. While some are easier than others, the labs require you to think like a geologist.

Professor Rhodes is one of the best classes I've took here. First off, his class is very easy! His lectures can be interesting or may be one of the dullest things. They are not even required to be honest. His exams, however, suck. Both his midterm and final come from the reading! And guess what: the reading can and will be boring. The class also contains a lab portion which isn't any better than reading. Some of the labs are hard and some are easy. Most of the time, you are analyzing rocks, and believe it or not, looking at rocks is pretty hard. The lab portion itself isn't hard assuming you get a lenient TA. Rhodes is also very helpful in his office hours, so attend if you need help! Overall, if you are interested in an easy, lab physical science GE, then take this! Just be prepared to sleep through boring lectures of igneous rock, subduction zones, and glaciation. It's your call, I like the class to an extent, but some readings and lectures were not.

Let me begin by saying, I very much enjoy Professor Rhodes. That being said, this class is extremely boring unless you're a geology major. It's also not the easiest class in the world, as people might expect. However, it's also not very difficult.
The lectures are generally pretty boring, but they could be a LOT worse, if Professor Rhodes wasn't trying his best to make them as engaging as possible. There is also quite a bit of reading, and it's also very tedious and boring, but that's where the bulk of the test questions are drawn from.
If you do the reading and go to most of the lectures (you really don't have to go to all of them, as some of them are actually redundant), you should do fine.
The labs on the other hand, are very difficult. However, I had a great TA and he was willing to help and he taught the topics very effectively. Generally, the TAs are pretty lenient and you will score very well on the labs as long as you stick around and put forth the effort to understand the material.
The class was not my favorite, I did not particularly enjoy it, and it was generally boring, but I would recommend taking it with Professor Rhodes, because it's not too hard, and it's pretty easy to get an A.
I will note however, there was a huge disparity in difficulty between the midterm and the final. The midterm was like taking candy from a baby and the final was like being a midget and trying to dunk on LeBron James. It was pretty hard. Take the class, you know, why not?
