Professor Namala is very passionate about her subject, and was a great lecturer. She is very easy to talk to, and is extremely helpful during her office hours for reviewing for the midterm and final. The class was not that difficult, but there are 4 books that she draws heavily on for the midterm and final that must be read. The class consisted of one midterm, one term paper and the final. The midterm had to be completed in 50 minutes, and consisted of vocabulary definitions, quote identification and two primary source analysis essays. The term paper had to be 5 pages long, and was written about one of four choices she gives you. The final as the same format as the midterm, but included a more comprehensive essay as well. Over all, I highly recommend this class for people looking for an interesting way to fulfill their historical analysis or literary and cultural GE. She has a true passion for Latin America, and her class has piqued my interest in the field as well. Also, it wasn't too difficult! My final grade: A, but keep in mind that the TA determines your grade, not the professor.

I really enjoyed Prof. Namala's class. She was a decent lecturer and made great use of media in her presentations. And her tests were very reasonable. She was straightforward about the material, and gave us really helpful study guides. The exams are a lot of writing, but it's totally doable. And the texts that are required for the class are actually interesting. The sections and overall class focus more heavily on the less interesting text, but the other one is so great you'll want to read it even if it's not going to be discussed. I would highly recommend this course for anyone looking to satisfy a requirement or simply just as a GPA booster. And if you get Daniel Beckman as your TA, he's super awkward but a really agreeable grader, especially in comparison to the other TAs.

Namala is awesome. She is really funny and is straight forward about the information she gives. She also doesn't overload you with a bunch of work. She talks kind of funny but you get use to it after a while. Her seminar was just some reading and three papers that she basically wrote the outline for you. She is also really nice. She is pretty knowledgeable but there are times when she doesn't really know how to answer your question but she is always willing to look it up and get back to you. I would suggest taking her class. It was rewarding for me.
