Class was a joke. Never read the book or did the hw. Got an A+. Material is super basic and he pretty much repeats the same stuff every lecture (and people still complain that he is hard lol). Didn't take AP Chem or AP Physics. U mad? Yeah, u mad.

I kick ass at chem. No problems there.
I'm so glad I pulled a C in this class, he was terrible.
Please do not take him, because of this:
YOU CAN DO WELL ON THE BOOKWORK (UNGRADED)
YOU COULD HAVE PULLED AN EASY 5 ON CHEM AP
YOU CAN KNOW YOUR SHIT
BUT
THE TESTS WILL BE INSANE.
INSANE.
If you take him, you have to review old tests all day.

Baugh is one of the easiest teachers you will have at UCLA. Trust me when i say that. In chem 20a, there are two groups of people, the smart and the dumb. If you are not of the dumb group, you will get an A since the curve is just too damn high. I must say, i thought i was going to get an F, but i ended up with an A-. I represent "the curve is too damn high" party. Delroy Baugh is definitely not professor material, but he is quite intelligent, and if you have him, you will waste an entire quarter in a useless class, but nonetheless, mandatory course. All in all, I'd would just like to say that Baugh's curve is simply too. damn. high.

He was ok. As my first chemistry class in college, it met my expectations of the level of difficulty. You get a cheat sheet for the midterms and finals and the practice midterms are really helpful. His lectures aren't as helpful as his office hours and maria zhao was awesome TA!

Baugh is A HORRIBLE lecturer, he's a genius but no professor, he specializes in RESEARCH not teaching. His power points were straight out of the book, and he didn't follow the book and taught what he thought was important in chemistry; trust me lasers, transistors, and other spec devices are NOT chem 20A. We were practically learning what chem grad students learn + physics majors, he THOUGHT he was funny but he wasn't, he's a nice person, but a boring, lecturer who couldn't even teach if his life depended on it. Weird grading system where he "let's you make up lost points on midterm" Hard midterms and Final, but on the bright side i had Marliza Zhao as a T.A. and i learned 35% from her 65% from the book and 0.00000001% from baugh. BUT i learned a very important lesson.. TRUST BRUINWALK (and i am not a disgruntled student, i managed to pull off an A- with ALOT of work)

I wrote an essay on my evaluation in the fall but I don't really feel like it now. (And I was one of the few who got an A by the way). All I remember is being insulted that UCLA was giving this to the aspiring scientists and engineers at the school.
Prof. Baugh is a genius for sure, but he. can't. teach. Let me just sum this up since other reviews go into detail: You just want to go into that class and laugh at how bad it is but you know you're going to die.
My friend just asked me, "You know what was good about Baugh?"
I replied, "Nothing?"
The only thing I got out of it was now I know how lasers work (could've just looked it up on Wikipedia though), a good curve, and a lesson on Bruinwalk - trust it.

This professor is absolutely absurd. Lectures = sleep time. Discussion = red-head TA = looks like stoned all the time and talks slow as a snaaaaaaaaail = hard quizzes. Powerpoints = from the book? = not on midterms or finals.
Overall = Crazy. The end.

P.S. Generous curve though; I thought I was getting an F------, but ended up with a B, though the amount of material I've learned only deserve at most a D+.

I read all the comments on BruinWalk before I signed up for this class. I told myself that I'd be fine and that most of the people who are talking trash on Baugh on this site are just disgruntled students with a bad grade.

After taking the class, TRUST THESE COMMENTS! Baugh is horrible. It's sometimes hard to hear him or understand his accent but that's not really the problem at all. He's simply incapable of intelligibly communicating the concepts to his students. His lectures are 100% useless and you will not learn anything from them without putting in a lot of effort.

This class is very difficult. It's as if you have to read the book ahead of time to gain an in depth knowledge of the lecture but at the same time, its hard to make sense of the readings without the basic background knowledge you can pick up from lecture.

Before you skip over this review thinking "oh this is one of those guys that got a B- or a C+ and is pissed..." I got an A and I am one of the only people that I know that got it. Ok now if youre thinking I'm a nerd that knew everything before entering the class... I had never taken any chem before. I studied the book and old exams to no end.
I only learned one thing from going to lectures. BELIEVE BRUINWALK. This guy has straight up all bad reviews... seriously... If youre a freshman at orientation considering taking this class, DONT DO IT unless you want your first quarter and first real college chem experience to be horrible.
Its like he spoke a different language. I understood nothing in lecture and learned everything on my own or with TA's. Seriously NOTHING from baugh though, absolutely not one fact that helped me get an A in the class was from Baugh. Basically if youre stuck with him, I'd say forget lecture and go to any TA review sessions offered before tests if they are offered and if you got a good TA take advantage of it. Read the book and study it inside out on the chapters he will test and look at all the old exams you can get your hands on.
Moral of the review: listen to bruinwalk... dont take baugh.
