Quarter: Winter 2020
Grade: A+
April 2, 2020

This class serves to remind you and everyone else how subpar our PChem education is coming up to taking this lab. When did we learn anything proper about kinetics? How deep did our spectroscopy education go? Definitely not time-dependent spectroscopy but there's an experiment on that so have fun. Electrochemistry? Good luck.

To survive this class, be proactive and learn as much as you can before you enroll. That way you won't have to spend hours teaching yourself how to code, hours teaching yourself the basic theory behind your experiment, and hours learning error analysis. That way, it will save you time so that you can use 10-20 hours to write your fucking lab reports that come for your throat every 2 weeks.

Baugh is literally useless which makes him one of the best professors to take this class with because he doesn't give a fuck. He doesn't talk to the TA's at all so there is constant miscommunication. His lectures are hallucinations. If you've ever taken a class with him before you'll know what I am talking about. How he has managed to stay in this department after all this time is beyond me. Possibly because there is a dramatic lack of pchem faculty that step up to take part in our upper division education other than the same few people like Baugh.

the class has 4 lab reports and 1 presentation. do not expect to get a good grade on the first lab report because the TA graded very harsh on the first one as well as the second lab report. but the third and fourth lab, they gave us very good grade overall. You will be assigned to do different 4 labs with specific lab partners. 1 new lab every 2 week. some labs can be finished in only 5 hours (1 lab period) but some will take the whole 2 weeks (4 lab periods). do not expect to learn much from the lecture by the professor. It was confusing . the lecture does take attendance. the lab report is expected to be no longer than 15 pages (single space). The TAs were very helpful. The presentation is in week 10th, u will choose one of the lab that u did and basically just present what u did and your result in front of TAs, labmates and professor. that's it, no midterm, no final, just 4 lab report and 1 presentation, which is amazing. good luck.

Supposed to have 2 leactures per week but he cancelled the first week of classes and the lectures after sixth weeks were all abt presentation. No midterm, no hw, no final. So, u would learn nothing in the class overall. There were four reports in the quarter and the lowest score of the report would be dropped. The grading was just ok coz the final decision was made by Baugh. The TAs graded the reports first and then Baugh and he pulled down the scores....for example, many ppl in the class got 7x or 8x out of 100 from TAs but Baugh made the score to 6x or even lower....Be ready to see that happen. And u wont get back the FIRST report back after FIFTH week, its terrible......which implied that u wont know how u did during the quarter.....
The only great pt in the class was that he wasnt a killer.... its not hard to pass the course but dont expect to get a gd grade.
