I honestly cannot fathom how anyone could possibly suggest this professor. I legitimately had the worst learning experience I've had since being here. His lectures go way too fast, and he literally skips over entire slides but expects you to know the material. While macro econ is pretty basic and easy to understand, he automatically assumes that it comes easy to everyone. Also, you better not ask him a question in class because ANYTHING that steers him off course, even a little bit, throws him completely out of wack and he just sits there and cannot think of an intelligible answer. Brown may be an expert on the topic but he is absolutely TERRIBLE at communicating his knowledge to the class. That being said, the tests are fairly easy, and the final is a joke. almost 80% of it came straight from the previous two tests. One annoying thing though is that he puts random, unrelated questions about what he mentioned in lecture. Instead of testing the material he tests whether or not you wrote down every word he says in lecture. In all, I would highly recommend NOT taking Brown if at all possible.

HORRIBLE! Avoid him, what most people say here about him is true. 1) He gets confused by his own problems and stares at them trying to figure out how to do them; he usually just ends up skipping them because he doesn't know how to actually do them. 2) He does a few problems in class and doesn't explain what he's doing or why, and then on the test he puts a similar problem except you have to do it a bit differently, but you don't know that. 3) He doesn't actually teach, the stuff he teaches in class doesn't help on the sample problems. 4) He puts the sample problems/answers out only a few days before the tests/final, I'm sure he does it on purpose In conclusion: GO BACK TO CSU POMONA!

Don't take 100C with Prof. Brown. She tries but fails at clarifying material for you, and her lectures drag on and on and on. If you can avoid it, try another professor. I also had her for Philos 7. With that class she was much better at explaining material, though her quizzes were still ridiculously confusing and technical.

To be honest, I was horrified to find out that 1. this class was at 8am, 2. all the reviews on him were horrible. But after attending lectures and discussions, I realize he isnt that bad at all. Yes, he does makes plenty of mistakes but that's because he works out the problems with us in class. I love the way he lectures because instead of just teaching off powerpoints (which makes it impossible to take notes, b/c i cant write fast enough) he actually goes problem by problem on the board and writes everything down as he goes. His tests are very predictable as he posts pass midterms and the TAs are helpful (especially Tzu-yu Kao, she's awesome). The only bad thing I can say is that considering how he makes mistakes doing his own problems on the board, he doesn't give partial credit whatsoever on his tests. On the midterm, I actually COPIED one number wrong but solved the entire problem with the correct method but didn't get any points for it (but you find out later that the TA's sometimes TRY to let small things go) You can easily do well in the class by being careful on the exams and just go to lectures.

Brown is a decent professor. He is unorganized and talks way too fast, but he's a nice guy, and it didn't seem like he was out to get you. His tests are fair, they require a thorough reading of the book, review of the practice probs he posts, and remembering tidbits from lecture. There aren't any curveballs like other Econ classes. If you put in enough time to study you should do fine. For the final, review the older material well. Its divided into equal thirds from the class, not weighted at all toward stuff not tested on. Expect to see repeated probs from the MTs. If you don't have patience, I wouldn't recommend this class, but if you're tired of getting screwed over by some of these Econ professors and their unfair tests, this would be a good class for you.

This guy is a f*ing retard. I took Money and Banking and 106P with him, and he taught both the exact same way; with the same stat intro (why oh god), same lame Milton Friedman videos, same history of economics. He has no idea what is useful and what is not in the real world, which is probably why he is teaching econ at ucla in the first place. He jumps around his own notes, reads them so fast you have no idea what he is talking about, goes on tangents lasting 10-15 min about stupid stories that aren't even funny, only to return to the original point with the entire class pondering if he is a borderline schizophrenic. Sounds fun? It would be if his tests actually tested what he teaches. But this bastard tests you on everything in his syllabus, from his outdated useless econ text to his beloved Milton Friedman videos. Man-crush much Bruce? Or are you just a lazy f*ing a**hole? He only teaches about 1/3 of the material, leaving you to learn the rest. YAY!!! Ohhh but I'm forgetting something. That's right, the best part about Bruce Brown is that he makes mistakes. Tons of them. But he doesn't catch them, because he has the handwriting of a child and it would probably make his own head explode looking through his own notes for errors. Sometimes I wonder if he makes them on purpose to test our knowledge of the material, but the dumbfounded look on his long face when he gets caught erases any hints of precognition. Bruce boobooed. I came to ucla expecting to learn my ropes, learn economic concepts that are affecting the world, and maybe finding something interesting to latch onto so I can make a living. This bastard ruined econ for me. He is not fit to teach college, high school, and I'd be damned if anyone lets him near kids, they just might turn out retarded like Bruce. So what do I think of him? If I were drunk enough I'd beat him and make him my _____.
