Schriver is the best professor I have ever had at UCLA!! He truly cares about his students and their learning, explaining concepts very clearly and going over many example/practice problems that are very similar to his exams. The averages on the two midterms were in the 80s, with a standard deviation around 12. The lecture before the exams (ie on Wednesday with a Friday exam) are big review sessions where Schriver just goes over a ton of practice problems. He skips around on the math, but to study, I would just go over the practice problems again and make sure I understood how Schriver solved them.
Our grade consisted of homework (mastering physics, about 8 assignments over the 10 weeks), 2 exams (each 15% of our grade), a final, and the lab (15%). Professor Schriver made our final optional very early on in relation to when the UCLA moved online, and he was very kind and understanding of his students' situations. I wish I had gotten to know him on a more personal level, so definitely try to go to office hours when you can! During lectures, he was very sweet and honestly reminds me a lot of Tom Hanks. He did a few cool demonstrations during class too and made some funny dad-style jokes :'). I 1000000% recommend Schriver if you ever get the chance to take his class!!

Dr Schriver is amazing. He is such a sweet heart and you can tell he cares about his students. His voice can be boring sometimes but he really does teach the material in a way that non physicists can comprehend. What I recommend doing is taking notes on his commentary in class, rather than trying to copy down the slides. Then after class when he posts his power points back track and connect his talking points with each slide. Many of his slides don't have much detail so this is what I found to be the best method for gathering all of the information.

He handled the COVID-19 craze and transition to online with grace despite the fact that he was very clearly immensely stressed about the last minute cancellation of our final. He really listened to our concerns and made a decision based on actually helping us.

Try to hit up the test bank for his physics 6 series exams when you are prepping for the midterms. Discussions are a waste of time, don't bother going. He is very helpful in office hours and it's a great way to get one on one time, as many students don't go until the week of the midterm.
I wish I could finish the physics series with him.
Don't pass on the opportunity to take him!

This class was very straight-forward (not to be confused with easy). The practice problems in the lectures are very helpful in understanding the material. All the lecture material and homework correlates closely with the exams. The exam questions are essentially the review problems with different numbers. There was no curve on the exams or overall curve in the class.

Professor Shriver is sweet and great at explaining things.

Dr. Schriver is one of the kindest professors I have ever had at UCLA. Due to the pandemic, he has given us three hours to take an exam designed for 50 minutes to make up for possible technical problems, etc. Homework is not too difficult and doesn't take long to complete, and his lectures are super helpful in preparing you for the exam. His lectures are also very clear. Make sure to know how to solve the lecture problems and homework by yourself. You cannot go wrong with him as your professor. I'm super happy I took this course with him.

This is the first bruin walk review I've ever felt inclined to write. Dr. Schriver is the best professor I've had at UCLA in my four years here. He is so understanding and considerate,. He genuinely wants you to do well and understand the material. His lectures are amazing and super engaging, and he always gives real-life examples and applications that support the theories and laws in physics. I hated physics before this class but I love it so much now and I'm planning to take 5C with Dr. Schriver as well. The exams are closed book and notes and closed everything, but he provides an equation sheet with everything you need. The homework he assigns takes around an hour, and he assigned a total of 8 throughout the quarter. The homework reflects what he tests on, so it's great practice as well. The breakdown of the class is 15% lab, 15% homework, 20% midterm 1, 20% midterm 2, and 20% final exam. The final is cumulative, and before each exam, he holds a very helpful review session. If you struggle with physics and have the opportunity to take it with Schriver, don't even hesitate.

This man is the greatest and most caring professor I've ever taken at UCLA. He doesn't want to ruin anyone's GPA and will actually teach you physics. Great guy. Gave everyone an A on the final when COVID hit.

This man is incredible! He made physics so clear and easy! His dad jokes and small laughs in class were incredibly pure. He handled the COVID-19 situation so well and was always patient with us. He is a snazzy dresser (khakis and dad jeans on fleek tbh). The exams were very fair and he is the ONLY STEM professor that actually tests us on material he said would be on the test. I was shook that he actually followed through.

Super chill class. I started studying for both of the midterms like 2-3 days before the midterms and ended with a 100 in the class. Just do Mastering Physics, the questions on his slides, and the review session questions and you're good to go. He offers an equation sheet during the tests, the questions are really fair, and he offers very lenient partial credit. I'd say the only concern is finishing the midterms in the allotted time, because you only have 50 minutes for those. Take his class!

His lectures were clear and the exams were fair. The test problems are pulled out from the lectures. If you can solve the lecture problems then you will get an A
