Professor Rigby is great. This is a class that you MUST attend the lectures, though. When you do attend the lectures, they are very straightforward and clear. He is easy to take notes with because he doesn't rush.

Aside from needing to actually attend the lectures, there's two papers that aren't too difficult. And there's weekly homework assignments that are not the easiest thing. Semi challenging.

Good class to take if you don't like your grade to rely on just the midterm and final. The two papers were worth 40% of your grade and the final was 40%. The weekly assignments were worth 20%.

I definitely recommend this class if you're interested in worldly economic affairs and know that you'll actually attend the lectures. If that is the case then you will thoroughly and genuinely love the course and do well.

The class sounds terrific but the ta's were terrible and the lectures were boring. He had two papers and a final which was a terrible set up as you have a great ammount of material to cover for the final. Do not recommend this class but take it if you dont really care what you enroll in. Just a run of the mill not super easy pretty boring class.

Professor Rigby has very interesting lectures and is an extremely fair person. He splits the grading for Geo4 so that much of your grade is about your at-home assignments rather than a test or two to see if you know everything. I recommend attending every lecture and knowing the material well. There's a lot of reading. Just read and understand, that's all you need to do. The final is comprehensive but there are no surprises. If you attend class and understand the material, have no fear. He is my favorite professor at UCLA.

Professor Rigby is a nice guy. He seems to enjoy what he does and is fairly enthusiastic. However, his lectures (which are entirely slide-based) are quite boring. I found myself falling asleep every time I went to lecture, and I ended up not going to many of them. Since Rigby posts all his lecture slideshows online, I never took notes, thinking that I could just review the slides come finals (which is what I did). There is no midterm.

The class grading was based on the following: weekly 1-page reading summaries (which were a joke, everyone got an A for doing them) and discussion attendance - 20%; two 3-page writing assignments - 20% each; and the final exam - 40%. Overall the class was very easy. I put hardly any effort into the class and literally studied the entire quarter's worth of material the day before the final, which was a short, simple exam. I ended up with an A-, but one could definitely get an A if they put a little just a little more effort than I did. I took this class as a GE and for my minor, and as a life science major I would recommend it.

This class was pretty bad. Rigby's slides were less than helpful and you will notice probably about half the students asleep each lecture. The content is extremely boring, and the TA's, while they were nice, didn't do a great job explaining the information. The readings you have to do are horrible. Definitely would NOT recommend this class as a GE.

WOW.....this class SUCKED.....i don't know what all of these people are raving about. Yeah, Prof. Rigby is a nice guy and all, but by far not the best Prof. here at UCLA. For the people who are Geog majors and not economic savvy you are competing with a lot of IDS majors who already have a good background in economics. Not to mention the topic, for me atleast, is extemely boring. Class was like pulling teeth. If you are as excited about econ as I am I advise you to only take this class as a last resort.

Prof. Rigby is great. He knows a lot about economic geography and makes the topic very interesting. You can tell he is a very intellegent person, and the things he says outside of class when you approach him after class are very thoughful and interesting. This class is a G.E. but run like an upper division course, which I appreciated. I did not take it for a G.E. (geo minor) so I did not feel like I was wasting my time. On a side note, Prof. Riby is a brit so his lectures are fun to listen to! Well, at least different. However, I know kids that didn't like the class as much (material), but still agree that he is a good Proffesor. I would suggest this course to anyone, especially geography majors or minors.
