Spring 2021 - Very easy class. Textbook was only used in the first week, though, so I would say it probably isn't even necessary to buy it. David Gere is an amazing presenter though. Very kind, encouraging, and passionate about the impact of the arts. Some of the activities we do in class will take you out of your comfort zone. However, along with prof. Meryl Friedman, David created such a welcoming environment where we all felt comfortable putting ourselves out there. Grade relies entirely on participation, weekly creative assignments, weekly blog posts, submission of in-class assignments, and one group project at the end of the quarter. I'd say all the assignments are very easy, just make sure to reflect that you actually put effort into your work.

Here are some tips for those who chose AA10 just because it's an easy A: 1. The grades of the assignments are just RANDOM. According to the rubric, a B+ means that you didn't put much effort into the assignment, but I remember for one assignment, I just spent five minutes and got an A+, and for another one I spent almost the whole weekend and got a B+. Other students in my discussion had the same situations in other assignments, too. 2. For the comments, my TA actually counted the number of sentences we wrote. I remember for my comment for the 4th week, I wrote five very long sentences fulfilled with details and thoughtful remarks, but I got an A- because for an A, I had to write more than 5 sentences. Next week, I wrote six very simple sentences which only contained the gist of what I wanted to say, and I got an A+. Then I used the same technic and got four A+s in a row. 3. Participation in the discussion will NOT improve your grade. I almost never participated actively in the discussion, and by that I mean besides our required exercises, I almost never raised my hand and said anything in the "free speak" part, but I got an A for participation every week. I also had a friend in my discussion who raised his hand and spoke all the time, but he got the exact same grade. Overall, it was a super chill and relatively easy class, but definitely not as easy as some may said; it's very time consuming and it does require you ability to think differently.
