Loved this class! Gained a lot of real-world applicable skills. Prof is awesome- he's clear, engaging, helpful, and embodies what a good professor is.
Professor Johnson was a great professor, and I would undeniably take another class with him. He has always been engaging during lectures, and extremely organized. He has a clear goal of what needs to be done during class, and does it. He is also a very nice, friendly guy.
He has always been very helpful to me during office hours, when I have occasionally came in to ask questions about assignments. And I love that there is an assignment re-make opportunity, which allows us to improve our grade if we show that we want to put in the effort. I also like how his grading system is very objective; he sticks to the grading rubric. So we know that if we follow the rubric we will do well, and, if we didn't do well, we know why because he leaves good comments and explains any points taken off.
The course as a whole does a good job giving us a background in business writing, whether that be through learning about bad company responses to tragedies, or learning how to create target audience analyses. Everything we are required to know has been taught to us in class or in the outside materials.
Thanks professor!
Darien's ENGCOMP 130B for Business Communication was one of my top favorite classes that I took at UCLA, in regards to both the qualities of Darien himself and topic of the class.
Darien was a great teacher in the sense that his communication was clear, personality humorous and energetic and care for student learning made the class worth taking.
The class consisted of several aspects. There were not in-class tests or finals as assignments that were worth more in points ranged from per-recorded presentations, group projects, and business-style reports. Participation was tallied through weekly discussion posts on CCLE. During class, we would often either review material or topics related to the assigned readings, get started on some of the larger projects or listen to various guest speakers who were relevant and active in their field.
As one of the last classes I took at UCLA, I highly recommend you take this class too before you eventually graduate. Darien is a great professor and teaches relevant material.
