To be honest... I would advise future students to try to avoid taking this teacher... first of all, he has been described as many students to lack the capability to teach to students the class material. I could see that he was a smart man and all but if you can't teach, it is no help for us. To make things worse, his grading are based on some "formula" that he doesnt even necessarily stick to. I emailed him several times concerning my grade and his final excuse was that he had the "authority" to give whatever grade he wanted to give. So in the end, it all depends on what he thinks you deserve and not necessarily what you got on your midterm or something. but word of advice... dont go to his lectures and just study off of his online notes and go to discussions if you want to even partly understand the class. cause the moment you step into one of his lectures, you will come out even more confused.

vvv Incorrect, the average for the Final Exam was an 86/120, therefore the average was 71-72% not 86%

Granted, he's not the best lecturer, but the class is not that difficult (average in class was B-, average grade for final was 86%). He has notes in PDF format online and it really helps understand the material when there’s a concept in the textbook that’s too difficult to understand. Professor Neuhauser is extremely nice and genuine guy, and appears to really care about his students (you'll always see him say "don't get confused between these two variables"). Most of his lectures seemed useless, but in sharp contrast, his office hours and review sessions were incredibly helpful. I was especially lost when he rushed lecturing electrochemistry and kinetics in the last few weeks, but I feel like he really taught thermodynamics quite well.
As for his exams, the midterms and final were pretty easy, most of the questions were just random problem solving, derivations, and plug & chug problems. If you can understand the material, the class is not too bad as it looks.
Would I take him again? No, though maybe for thermodynamics.

Try to avoid him please. Neuhauser is incredibly ineffective during lecture, but if you are stuck with him it CAN be bearable. Here is my advice:
1. MAKE FRIENDS: review with them, share notes, ask questions, and most importantly find out which TA is the most effective and attend their discussion sections (that is how I survived)
2. When taking the midterms, you have THREE HOURS make sure to use the last hour and a half (cause seriously that's how long it takes to actually do the work) checking your work cause arithmetic mistakes can REALLY destroy your grade
3. Attend review sessions! (of the most effective TA NOT Neuhauser's cause I went to his and it just felt like the lecture all over again)
4. Use the time you would spend attending lecture for homework/reading notes/reading the book and make sure to mark what you don't understand and ask questions during a TA's office hours.

Lastly, if you REALLY don't know what the heck is going on in one of the problems during the midterm or final, write down whatever comes to mind because partial credit WILL ADD UP. That's what pretty much saved me on the final, cause at that point I was so over the class I didn't study as much as I could have =P

But hey, I felt like I failed and ended up getting a B- not bad huh? But if you actually follow through what I say you will get much higher, because I got lazy towards the end of the course ;] ... oh and seriously, no formula sheet for the final?

Neuhauser is a nice guy, but he definitely isn't the greatest lecturer. I lost interest in a lot of classes because his presentations seemed unorganized at times. The book is extremely dull and boring. However, I was able to do well in the class by reading the notes that Neuhauser placed online. Be careful because sometimes the notes contained errors that could mess you up on the test. BUT, pretty much everything you need to know for midterms and finals are in the notes. The tests were all three hour long ordeals, and mostly computational. The first midterm is the easiest, and the tests get progressively harder. He definitely loves derivatives though. They're a little hard to stick if you don't have time to repeat them a couple of times. It really tests you on your ability to understand and adapt the concept to the situation at hand. My TA was a LIFESAVER and was really great at clarifying concepts in class. Take good notes during discussions!

This professor is a really nice and approachable guy, BUT he has a really hard time teaching, and his thick accent and lisp don't help at all either. He has all his notes online in one long PDF which are a very useful supplement to the book (which if you're like me and stopped going to class, reading the book and the notes are tremendously helpful). His midterms are allotted three hours on Thursday night even though for the first one I only needed less than an hour, which was the case for most of the people I talked to. The second midterm was a little more difficult but once again not that bad, just took a little longer. He does stress knowing the derivations for a lot of the thermodynamic equations but to be honest they are not that bad. All this being said, his final was very difficult for me, perhaps I didn't study as hard as I should have, but I felt confused for most of the test.
If you can take another professor, it might be beneficial especially if you're a type of student who needs the professor to explain everything to you, but if you can learn on you're own, you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

This guy is a mess. He confuses himself multiple times during lecture, and when called out, he claims that he makes mistakes "on purpose so that you guys catch them." Just wake up early and take the other professor.
