"Raised by wolves in a small hamlet in South Carolina, by my late teens I had sufficiently mastered English to enter university. I decided to study Greek and Latin, since these were closer to my native, feral language. I'm currently writing my dissertation, which centers on how the literary and philosophical tradition has dealt with the surprisingly complex issue of Socrates' body. I'm looking forward to working with the Mellon group. I hope the absence of opposable thumbs won't hinder me from using the keyboard properly."
This is Prof. McLean's bio that my friend found. He is so funny and sarcastic, I loved going to class just because I knew I'd laugh the whole time. He made ancient Greece really interesting. There was a fair amount of reading and my t.a. was a hard grader, but it's not hard to get an A.
Prof. Mc Lean was one of the most engaging lecturers I've ever had here at UCLA. Not only did he make the subject material interesting, but his story like way of lecturing really added to the motivation for going to class and getting a good laugh. :)
There is 1 midterm, 2 short papers and a final in this class which are really straightforward and easy. If you come to class and go to discussion, you should easily be able to get an A. No problem. This is a great GE class to take. Esp. if Mc Lean is taking it, it'll be all the more enjoyable! :)
He brings something new to every lecture no matter how much of the reading you've done. With all of his attention focused on his students its no wonder that Professor McLean has such a high rating. As one of the first undergraduates to have taken one of his classes here at UCLA I'm honored to talk about Professor McLean. The only thing you really have to do to pass his class is come to the lectures because he explains everything that he tests you on so thoroughly. The real go-getters were the ones that actually did the readings. If you take a class with Professor McLean you'll be amazed at how much you learn with such little effort.
