Mckenzie is a great professor. Take him if you can. I've never learned math great from teachers but he's definitely the best math teacher I've ever had. He does his best to explain the intuition behind the material and make sure everyone understands. The class uses Piazza and the instructors are super quick to respond to questions. Mckenzie also typed up the homework questions every week and posted them so we didn't have to buy the new edition of the textbook and waste our money. Even better, we didn't have to turn in our homework and instead had weekly discussion quizzes on one of the homework problems (with two quizzes dropped) which was super fair. Both midterms and the final were straightforward and fair. (and he even gave us a list of every topic that would be on the final)
He is very funny in class. He also makes sure to answer everyone's questions. He make sure to go over the material and even goes over some of the proofs behind it. I went to office hours twice, but it is always packed. The midterms are relatively easy if you do all your homework. Most of all, he is very considerate of the students. I would highly recommend taking him.
McKenzie is the best! Lectures are super clear and easy to understand. He is very helpful, especially during office hours, which he holds twice a week. His midterms were both straightforward, 5 problems with one conceptual question each. And we haven’t received our final grades back yet, but it was ridiculously easy (no conceptual questions). Overall, if you are able to take this class with McKenzie please do! He truly is the GOAT!!
Bro honestly this is the first math class I've taken in college and I'm kinda sad bc none of my professors are ever gonna compare to my boi Mckenzie. He makes the material seem so easy, his lectures are always easy to follow, he doesn't skip steps or make big logic jumps. Dr. Mckenzie also tries his best to always answers questions people have in class or on Piazza (the online message board he uses). Would definitely take another class with him again! Perfect score 5/7
He’s a nice person and a pretty good professor. Lower Division math at UCLA isn’t great (imo) so I had some issues with the curriculum. That being said, he did a pretty good job of making the material clear
Surprisingly, I enjoyed this class very much, and I don't like math courses at all. I went in thinking that the curriculum would be quite challenging but it wasn't.
His lectures are very clear and organized with various examples to make sure that students can comprehend the material and complete the homework. Although homework is not mandatory, make sure to do it since weekly quizzes are based on the previous week's homework. His office hours are also very helpful since he is very approachable and tries to answer all lingering questions. I had Gagniere as my TA and his office hours are very helpful as well.
For both the midterms, he gave us practice midterms, which mimicked the actual midterms pretty well. For the final though, he only gave a review sheet, listing which topics we need to review and which concepts would definitely be on the exam. The final itself, along with the midterms, were all really straightforward and fair. He doesn't put tricky questions or anything beyond the scope of this class on the test; he genuinely wants his students to pass his class.
Overall, this class was very manageable and rather enjoyable. If you review the lecture notes and finish all the homework, you should be well in this class.
