Zaidel is a fun professor. Originally, she's the "crazy russian lady", but she has a fun sense of humor and really cares about her students learning; she gives feedback after tests. Very approachable. (And its funny when she makes fun of all the people who just can't stay awake in lecture...) However, TAKE NOTES LIKE CRAZY! Somedays she goes so fast, its handy to have a few friends who you can meet up with and compare notes after class. The book is great, entertaining, and easy to read, tests are mainly reading-based. (What else would you expect in an intro psych class?) I'd definitely take her for another psych class...I got an A, easy. Oh, and she posts the "areas to study for" on her website the night before the tests.
ZAIDEL was just so-so as a professor. Her lectures were not engaging at all and the material was very similar to high school psych. The class was very easy and I received an A. She has a thick accent which made it difficult to follow her at times, but if you want an easy A for psych 10 go with her. Only three midterms, no final...all tests were cake.
It's true that these reviews are way too nice. She was a friendly teacher, but the lectures were unorganized, she was always all over the place going off on tangents, and nothing from the lectures was actually tested on. You didn't even really need to go to the boring class. Your grade relied on your reading every last detail in the book, which I did, and got a C in the class. I definately would take someone else, she was not a good teacher.
All you have to do are take three exams during the quarter. No homework; no quizzes; no projects. In addition, you have to do 10 hours of psychology experiments, which are very easy. One thing to remember: STUDY! I thought it was going to be a piece of cake and didn't go to class or study very much, since the exams were multiple choice. Thus, I passed (barely) with a C-. The material is easy to learn, but you still need to study it.
i think that everyone's reviews are a little too nice. The class was not that easy - i worked really hard for my A. Also, the lectures were really boring and long - class was not fun. She was really nice, but I hear that there are better and easier teachers for psych 10. The example question in these reviews is obviously easy, but the rest were not like that. You definately had to know the material. I know people who studied and still failed.
Prof. Zaidel is an EXTREMELY easy professor & psych 10 is an EXTREMELY easy class. There is a lot of material to read, but if you j/read it thru once & understand it, you'll do fine on her exams. Her accent makes her difficult to understand at times, but it's endurable. You should go to lectures time-to-time b/c she does test you on things from her lectures that are not in the book readings, but she pretty much gives a huge signal as to what those items might be. It does get difficult to stay in there for the entire 2 hrs every 2x a week, but hey, that's the price for taking an easy GE class. Overall, I found this class to be very interesting in terms of the material learned, & Prof.Zaidel was quite humorous. I don't think she meant it to be, but some of the things she said were HILARIOUS! So, if you need an easy GE w/an easy professor, take this.
Professor Zaidel is a nice person, but I found the class to be really boring. Although the material was interesting, she lectures really fast and jumps around from topic to topic, making it so that notes are confusing. I found it much easier to simply skip the lectures, read the book and get my material from there. The only problem with skipping lectures is that she likes showing videos in class and sometimes there are exam questions on those. She is however an agreeable lady and even let us watch "Dumb and Dumber" in class to de-stress. It was overall a pretty easy and interesting course, I just found the lectures boring.
I felt that her tests were extremely fair and straightforward - you can't ask for easier multiple choice. One question comes to mind most readily: "Which Disney song would Freud have preferred" A) Bibbity, Bobbity, Boo B) A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes C) Some Day My Prince Will Come D) Whistle While You Work." (Answer B) :) She has a sense of humor. So there is little to no anxiety when it comes to the tests. If you have done your reading and attended the lectures (which were often dappled with fun video clips), you are set. And Prof Zaidel's quirks are almost as interesting as the course itself. She sometimes waxes a bit repetitive, but not painfully so. She gave us Tootsie Roll pops on Halloween.
Dr. Zaidel's class was both entertaining and a challenge. She lectures too fast, which means you should bring a tape recorder to class. The tests were straight-forward and easy. As long as you do the reading and pay attention in class ( since she tests you on both lecture and text material) you will do fine.
