Morris is great. He's obviously quite passionate about Spanish literature which makes lecture so much more enjoyable. There wasn't a lot of discussion, but he keeps you interested. He gives you TONS of information, including background and extra interviews with the authors and such. He encourages you to use some of it in your papers, but a lot of the material is just for your knowledge, which is pretty cool, not having to worry about being tested one every last detail.
He's a pretty tough grader, but he's consistent. I had never gotten anything below a B+ on a Spanish paper before, but in this class, I was stoked when I finally got a B on a paper. Some other students told me they did pretty well just rephrasing things that he said in class in their papers. I'm not a fan of regurgitation, so maybe that kept me out of the A range...he does say that A+'s are possible, so there must be some way to get there.
There a 4 papers, written in either Spanish or English, each around 4 pages. And that's your grade. Very straightforward.
I would highly recommend taking any class with him. He's definitely one of the best lit professors I have ever had. And go talk to him in office hours --- he's super friendly and loves talking with students.
Morris is an excellent professor. He is very passionate about his lectures which results in his students being much more interested in a topic which on the surface appears very boring. It was a bit much at 9 in the morning and not an easy class, but very much worth the effort.
