easy class and super interesting! TAKE IT!
the professor is very opinionated but it makes class fun. If you dont feel like waking up for lecture, you dont need to...theres a podcast (and you dont even need that). The book, the lectures, and the course reader all have the exact same info...just choose one. the project is easy. the homework is annoying but doable. discussion is a joke. all you need to do is study a little for the midterm and final.
the subject matter is fascinating and can really apply to your life! It makes you health consious (but in a good way). It's basically an athlete's dream class and the closest thing to a nutritional class. Like I said, take it!
I loved this class. I took it as a GE and really didn't want to because of its reputation as such a hard class, but its been my favorite class at UCLA. I have a lot of interest in Diet & Exercise and a lot of the topics really appealed to me, but they're topics that kind of pertain to everyone so I could see a lot of people being interested by it.
Prof. Roberts does a great job of presenting the material, and if you miss lectures you can still listen to podcasts online while following along with the course reader. I went to pretty much every lecture and podcasted the couple that I missed. Then I'd go home, take out the Study Guide reader that we get, and review the topic we went over in class for about 15 minutes. It really helped me absorb the material better. I really only studied for about an hour-hour and a half before the midterm and the final and I got a 91 on both. I ended up with an A in the class. The project is really easy, and the only sucky part is logging what you eat, but you can BS that if you want to and then it's a lay up. It's kinda fun too.
Take this class as a GE. It's fun, really manageable. There's no homework except for the project, and every night after class days I would review the notes for a bit but you don't even have to do it. It's a fairly easy class.
Okay, first off I was told this was an easy GE class, but if you're like me and Science is NOT your strong subject, then it's fairly difficult. The material for the first half of the quarter was pretty interesting, but when it got to the second half it was straight up Bio material. I mean, this class really makes you want to eat healthier and go to the gym, but the material in the course reader was.. not too exciting. Quite honestly, attending lectures just made me fall asleep. He basically reads you to course reader. To sum up the class, eat healthy and exercise. The project was manageable, but the final was straight up ridiculous. The both the midterm and final were made up of multiple choice questions, and the other half was fill in the blank short answer questions. Reading the study guide and answering every single question will really help. I ended up with a C in the class after completely bombing my final, but man. I found this class REALLY hard.
OMG. take this class. even though it does have a hefty amount of bio, it is totally worth it! I just took the midterm and finished with loads of time to spare. the final is not cumulative. the stuff he teaches is pretty interesting and worth the 2 1/2 hours a week! he isn't anal on questions and gives you homework, which is easy points. the project is easy. record what you eat, hit the gym for once, evaluate your nutrition and performance, write a 4 page write-up and bam! done. and he gives you all quarter for it. but if you don't do it for these reasons, there is always the hot TA.
This is a very EASY GE course. The material was easy and Roberts taught effectively. The project is an easy A if you follow the instructions. I thought that the midterm and final needed a lot of memorization but the stuff is straight out of the course reader so be sure to read it a few times over.
Amazing amazing class.
Take it. Easy, useful, interesting; It made me even want to consider a physiological science major.. and i'm north campus.
he's personable, funny, buff, and amazing.
project is an easy 100 if you just follow directions, homework is an easy 95-100, midterm is an easy 85+. haven't taken the final yet, but i'm not too stressed.
please take this class. if you don't, your ucla education will be missing a giant chunk of awesomeness.
This course is SO easy. Roberts is a pretty good lecturer and keeps you awake with all his slides. The information is extremely relevant and interesting. Discussion meets every other week and the project is an absolute joke as well as the homework. Midterm and final are easy if you merely open the course reader. Take this class!!!
This class is a great class to take overall. It will give you knowledge about health which is very valuable.
Roberts is an interesting lecturer and the course reader is put together very well. The tests are a little bit difficult, but the questions are pretty much straight out of the reader. If you understand the concepts, you'll be able to figure out the answers to his questions.
If you have even a mild interest in exercise and nutrition, I would recommend taking this class. The material Roberts presents is easy to understand and applicable. I changed the way I structured my diet and switched up my gym workout based on his class and I've made noticeable improvements. Difficulty wise, this class is probably one of the easiest life sciences with lab offered here. The four homework assignments are free points and take a combined total of 30 seconds to complete since they aren't even graded on accuracy. I went to lecture twice all quarter and studied 6-7 hours the 2-3 days before the midterm and did this again for the final. His tests are fair with all the material being in the course reader and you are curved nearly an entire grade level up after the final. I ended up with an A-, and I do regret not working a bit harder for an A but I'm still satisfied.
Short summary: 0 hours of lecture, 6-7 hours of studying on weeks 5 and 11, 30 seconds of homework, and 6 hours of project over a span of 11 weeks in exchange for valuable information that will improve your health, an A-, 5 units, and life science with lab credit. Take this class. Your body and GPA will thank you later.
